Stay Safe.
You asked for my opinion, now you have it. Any similarity to another opinion, living or dead, is purely coincidental.

Oh my gosh, I'd have to come back to the office every hour to get another box of aimo. Much safer for the public if they didn't give me a gun....Totally kidding!

Snake Man would be shooting the tires off of vehicles in Fire Lanes!! LOL
Better to leave weapons with law enforcement.

Some of the larger cities around here do have their fire bureau personnel carries side arms, only because they serve as inspectors and investigators. In Ohio, in order to carry a side-arm in an enforcement capacity, you must be certified a peace (police) officer. And in order to hold a valid peace officer certificate, you must be commissioned. What this means is that they must go through a full police academy, become certified, and be on a police department roster. Many work 1 shift a year for the same city on the PD to maintain this so that they can carry a weapon on duty in the bureau and have full police authority (powers of arrest specifically).
