CINCINNATI, OH:
Cincinnati Fire Division
Media Release
Media Contact: District Chief John Zompero
Phone: 352-2322
Date: 12/30/2001
This is District 2 Chief John Zompero of the Cincinnati Fire Department reporting on a fatal fire that occurred Sunday 12/30/01 in the Price Hill area. Fire companies were dispatched at 5:03 PM Sunday afternoon to 800 Elberon Av. to investigate the smell of smoke in the hallway of a 12 family apartment building. Upon our arrival it was determined that the odor was coming from an apartment that was locked, and after several attempts to arouse the tenant, no one answered. Fire crews forced entry and found that the apartment sustained heavy smoke and heat damage and the sofa in the living room was badly burned. However, the smoke had dissipated and the contents in the room were now cool indicating that the fire had been out for some time. After performing a quick search, the body of a 73-year-old female was discovered on the kitchen floor. She had apparently succumbed to the smoke from fire. The name of the victim is not being released until the next of kin has been notified.
When interviewed, neighbors of the victim said that they had smelled smoke earlier in the day but had attributed it to someone burning their meal. There was a smoke detector bracket in the victim's apartment but the detector had been removed.
The fire did an estimated $7000 damage to the apartment and it's contents. The cause of the fire is still under investigation but it does not appear to be suspicious in nature. There were no other reported injuries.
For additional information contact District Chief John Zompero at 352-2322.

We offer pager coverage from Bangor, Maine to Washington DC (our corridor coverage system), our New England States Regional System and now our NEW Nationwide System for the fire buff who travels around the country. Incident coverage includes Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Maine.
We page Working Fires and greater, Motor Vehicle Accidents using Jaws, MCI, or Medflight Helicopter. Police Incidents such as Shootings, stabbings, car chases, etc. and Major NEWS incidents.
We have a National Group for multiple alarms that we get from our affiliates across the country.
We have several groups to choose from and all groups have the option to be turned off. We also use a state of the art FLEX system which allows us to page 240 characters.
A feature for those outside our pager service area allows us to page our incidents to your personal alphanumeric pager or to your digital cell phone.
We also offer E-mail of our incidents to your E-mail address or E-mail enabled Wireless device.
For existing Fire Paging groups we have the TAC9 USA Computer for multiple alarm fires. A Fire Paging group sends one page to this computer, either by SNPP, WCTP, SMTP (E-mail), or TAP (dial up) and the system sends that multiple alarm fire to all your reciprocal groups. That simple !
Call us for details or check us out on the web.
Thank You for your interest in TAC9 PAGING.
