1056 A21 Paddington 4 pump fire at 70 Kensington Gardens Square, 5-sty residential apartments 5m x 20m, heavy fire in 5th flr apartment using 2 hosereels, Hydraulic Platform.

Good morning
This is District Chief Howard Reed from District One of the Cincinnati Fire Department reporting on a one-alarm fire which occurred on 1/24/02 at 0200 a.m. This incident took place at 5894 Kennedy Avenue, located in the Kennedy Heights.
Firefighters responded to a single-family two-story brick structure. Upon their arrival they found heavy smoke coming from the first floor, firefighters entered the structure in an aggressive offense attack mode. After about a five to ten minute search, firefighters found the fire in the structure's basement, and quickly extinguished it.
There were three occupants at home at the time of the fire and thanks to their early warning smoke detectors; all escaped uninjured.
The content and structure damage is estimated at $10,000.00. The cause of the fire is undetermined and is being investigated by Lieutenant Wolf from the Fire Investigation Unit.

<br />***BALTIMORE, MARYLAND FIRE HISTORY***
for January 24th:
1908: Box#21, Gay & Saratoga Sts (Downtown Northeast), was sounded @ 0004hrs for a fire on the 3rd floor of the 6 story Joseph Regester's Foundry @ the southeast corner of Holiday & Saratoga Sts - Chief Engineer Horton sounded the 4-2's @ 0007hrs - 10 minutes later, the Saratoga St wall fell suddenly & without any warning, covering up 30 firefighters, giving them no opportunity to flee, & crushing T-1's Hayes Aerial Ladder Truck - The remaining firefighters rushed to the rescue & began digging away the hot bricks, disregarding their own lives - Chief Engineer Horton was uncovered & carried away in agony, owing his life to the fact that he was standing close to the wall & it fell out over him to the street - As the rescuers worked to dig out the dead & injured, flames shot out over their heads, defying their efforts - When all were accounted for, it was discovered that 3 firefighters were dead & 22 injured - Dead were Lieutenant Frederick W. Harmon & Assistant Hostler Charles Freeman, E-3, & Pipeman William B. Pugh, E-33 - Injured besides Chief Engineer Horton, were Captain Edward Tauber, Lieutenants Eugene Short, & Frank Heiner, Pipemen C. L. Sauerwein, W. H. Weber, J. S. Walsh, & J. F. Davidson, E-23, Lieutenant George E. McNeil & Tillerman George W. Haskell, T-1, Captain August Schlimm, E-3, Ladderman H. Meyers, T-16, Pipeman John Weinknecht, E-4, & Pipemen John Doering & Edward Divine, E-6 - Hostler Freeman was buried on 1/26 in Baltimore Cemetery, Lieutenant Harmen was buried on 1/27 also in Baltimore Cemetery, & Pipeman Pugh was buried on 1/27 in Mount Carmel Cemetery. 1950: 3 Alarms - 700 S Register St - Fell's Point (Southeast Of Downtown) - Fire involved the League Lumber Company. (CHM1)
1961: 5 Alarms - Box#326 - Pennsylvania Ave & Pitcher St - Upton (Northwest Of Downtown) - Fire involved the 5th Avenue Musical Bar. (CHM1)
1990: 3 Alarms + Special Call 2 Engines(30 & 26) - Box#3724 - 0226hrs - 1301 Laurens St - Sandtown/Winchester (Northwest Of Downtown) - Fire involved the vacant 3 story Schmidt's Bakery - 1st due units had fire on all 3 floors of this arson caused fire - Over 100 firefighters battled the blaze - E-13 & T-10 collided @ Carey & Winchester Sts while responding to the fire - (5) injured firefighters were treated & released @ Mercy Medical Center - The old bakery warehouse was the scene of (2) fires last year (1989) on 9/2 & 10/2 - Neither fire got beyond 1st alarm status. 1056 A21 Paddington 4 pump fire at 70 Kensington Gardens Square, 5-sty residential apartments 5m x 20m, heavy fire in 5th flr apartment using 2 hosereels, Hydraulic Platform.
0009 F41 Dagenham 4 pump fire at J & M Coachworks on Chequers Lane, auto salvage yard 20m x 10m fully involved, using 2 jets & 2 ground monitors, thermal imaging camera, 3 acetylene and 6 45kg propane cylinders involved.

Good morning
This is District Chief Howard Reed from District One of the Cincinnati Fire Department reporting on a one-alarm fire which occurred on 1/24/02 at 0200 a.m. This incident took place at 5894 Kennedy Avenue, located in the Kennedy Heights.
Firefighters responded to a single-family two-story brick structure. Upon their arrival they found heavy smoke coming from the first floor, firefighters entered the structure in an aggressive offense attack mode. After about a five to ten minute search, firefighters found the fire in the structure's basement, and quickly extinguished it.
There were three occupants at home at the time of the fire and thanks to their early warning smoke detectors; all escaped uninjured.
The content and structure damage is estimated at $10,000.00. The cause of the fire is undetermined and is being investigated by Lieutenant Wolf from the Fire Investigation Unit.

<br />***BALTIMORE, MARYLAND FIRE HISTORY***
for January 24th:
1908: Box#21, Gay & Saratoga Sts (Downtown Northeast), was sounded @ 0004hrs for a fire on the 3rd floor of the 6 story Joseph Regester's Foundry @ the southeast corner of Holiday & Saratoga Sts - Chief Engineer Horton sounded the 4-2's @ 0007hrs - 10 minutes later, the Saratoga St wall fell suddenly & without any warning, covering up 30 firefighters, giving them no opportunity to flee, & crushing T-1's Hayes Aerial Ladder Truck - The remaining firefighters rushed to the rescue & began digging away the hot bricks, disregarding their own lives - Chief Engineer Horton was uncovered & carried away in agony, owing his life to the fact that he was standing close to the wall & it fell out over him to the street - As the rescuers worked to dig out the dead & injured, flames shot out over their heads, defying their efforts - When all were accounted for, it was discovered that 3 firefighters were dead & 22 injured - Dead were Lieutenant Frederick W. Harmon & Assistant Hostler Charles Freeman, E-3, & Pipeman William B. Pugh, E-33 - Injured besides Chief Engineer Horton, were Captain Edward Tauber, Lieutenants Eugene Short, & Frank Heiner, Pipemen C. L. Sauerwein, W. H. Weber, J. S. Walsh, & J. F. Davidson, E-23, Lieutenant George E. McNeil & Tillerman George W. Haskell, T-1, Captain August Schlimm, E-3, Ladderman H. Meyers, T-16, Pipeman John Weinknecht, E-4, & Pipemen John Doering & Edward Divine, E-6 - Hostler Freeman was buried on 1/26 in Baltimore Cemetery, Lieutenant Harmen was buried on 1/27 also in Baltimore Cemetery, & Pipeman Pugh was buried on 1/27 in Mount Carmel Cemetery. 1950: 3 Alarms - 700 S Register St - Fell's Point (Southeast Of Downtown) - Fire involved the League Lumber Company. (CHM1)
1961: 5 Alarms - Box#326 - Pennsylvania Ave & Pitcher St - Upton (Northwest Of Downtown) - Fire involved the 5th Avenue Musical Bar. (CHM1)
1990: 3 Alarms + Special Call 2 Engines(30 & 26) - Box#3724 - 0226hrs - 1301 Laurens St - Sandtown/Winchester (Northwest Of Downtown) - Fire involved the vacant 3 story Schmidt's Bakery - 1st due units had fire on all 3 floors of this arson caused fire - Over 100 firefighters battled the blaze - E-13 & T-10 collided @ Carey & Winchester Sts while responding to the fire - (5) injured firefighters were treated & released @ Mercy Medical Center - The old bakery warehouse was the scene of (2) fires last year (1989) on 9/2 & 10/2 - Neither fire got beyond 1st alarm status.
