New Recruit Idea

I just threw this at the chief the other day. I'm putting together a "Recruitment Package" which will include a smoke detector, rules & application for a burn permit, township map, fire prevention pamphlets and an overview of the fire dept with, of course, an application to join. This package will be delivered personally by myself ( a lieutenant ) and my district chief. We find out who the new homeowners are in the township ( my girlfriend works there) and we visit the new homeowner and welcome him / her. The chief figures if we pull up in a shiny truck, welcome the person and offer the packsge, then we have a chance at a new recruit. We'll see what happens.

I like the idea and hope it works! Our department was thinking about something like this but more basic. It was to go to each house in the district and just ask if any one was interested in joining. Although this may sound elementary I think many people don't realize their help can be needed. We've gone on calls where people had no clue that we were volunteers. I think some time the fire department is often forgotten by the community and people don't realize how important we are untill they are in need.
