View Full Version : Recruitement Flyers
What have other FDs done in the way of recruitement flyers and brouchers.
We are going to be dropping off raffle tickets and a flyer to every house in our call area, so I made the suggestion of dropping off a recruitement flyer/broucher at the same time. We are them guaranteed to reach every household.
So, I am going to be making a recruitement flyer/broucher and would like to see any such materials from other FDs. If people have them on file and can email them to me, that would be great.
I am also pondering creating a website with an online application.

This might not be the sort of answer you're looking for, but we've put recruiting flyers out door-to-door for a few years now, along with our invitations to the Fire Prevention Week open house and with some of our fund-raising letters. They have helped to raise awaredness in the community that we are a volunteer (as opposed to paid/career) department, but they have produced no inquiries about volunteering. None. At all.
We've tried flyers that stress community service, we've tried flyers that stress the non-"work" activities (the annual banquet, parades, the Social Quarters) more strongly, and some that were more simply informational. Same results every time.
Still, I encourage you to try, and, if you find something that works, please tell the rest of us about it. My theory is that my dept. just isn't using the right approach, but I don't know what the right approach is. If I did, this would be a more positive post.
Well, what I was planning on was a nice professional-looking flyer/broucher (still not sure which way we are gonna go) just basically telling people what we are about and how they can help. I think the only part I have thought about stressing so far is: if they want to help, we'll take them.
It will be interesting to see if it helps or not. If we start getting responses, then I'll be sure to share the info.
My FD right now has a total of about 60 people, but only like 30/35 active members. My town has about 10K people in it, we serve about 4K of that and 2/3 the land area.

We're doing both and it has worked.
We've developed a fact sheet as part of a multi-faceted county-wide campaign.
I can e-mail the fact sheet but because of the photos included - it's going to be a large file. I can fax it if you want to provide a fax number.
We're also using our web site as the clearinghouse for our campaign and we get 2-3 inquiries each day.
Check it out at www.erie.gov. (http://www.erie.gov.)
Let me know how we can help.

Adze could you let me know how the flyer/raffle think works out for you. I'm currently in chage of Human resources for Canton, CT. Just as an afterthought the flyer program that we ran in 1999 produced a 30% increase in applications from 1997 when I started. Way to go!

I have a few flyers from CT, MA, and NY. I will be doing our flyer in the next month or two. I will be sure to share it with anyone who wants to see it.
