Conducting reruitment and retention is all fine and dandy however, if youdon't have a plan I just won't work.

If you've tried evry trick you can think of to get new members into your volunteer department and it just isn't working you may have lager issues pre-empting your efforts.

Look at the big picture. What is the public's view of the department? Are you a bunch of beer guzzling rednecks? Are you just a bunch of sick people doing it for a cheap thrill? I don't think so, but the public might. Review your procedures, events you conduct, the interaction between your people and the public. Then identify any aspect that could be construed as negative. Adjust your programs to paint the department in a better light and presto new members. Well maybe not quite that simple. But the image you display to the public goes a long way to bolstering you staffing levels.

Remember it only takes one bad image to undo the other 300 images you plant in your public's mind. So go ot there and impress the heck out of the public with your professionalism and your caring. You'll find that people will actually want to be a part of you organization and not spend all their free time blocking your budget.
