Max Hiring Age

I have a friend who will be retiring from the USMC at 39 yrs old. He wants to move back to the Iowa/Nebraska/S Dakota area and is interested in the fire service. Do depts out that way have max hiring ages? Is it a state or individual dept requirement? Does he have a chance?

For us, a person can attain partial pension at 12 years of service. Full pension at 20 years of service and age 50. Mandatory retirement age is 65.
