Picked this up on WOF --FPNW NEWS: TACOMA, WA: Tacoma City manager Ray Corpuz announced that Eileen Lewis will replace Dick Moore as Fire Chief of the Tacoma Fire Dept. when Dick retires at the end of the month. She is Tacoma's first female Firefighter and a great friend to the buffs. [FPNW/WA2]. 7:30p.m.

I submit my congratulations to them both and respect them for starting in the ranks and moving up. Especially the Takoma Chief who started as a firefighter. I wish them well. These are ladies that make a name for women firefighters...not for themselves. Case in point... My former career department hired a female fire chief to replace the Department's original chief. She was an EMS chief prior. PROBLEM: In her previous job she was hired as a civilian to manage the EMS System and the position was made a uniform one and she moved on to Chief. Never spending any day on an Engine. How can she know what it takes? Never fought a fire.... In fact..she won't show up on fire scenes for fear of having to command!
