Does anyone subscribe to the news letter "Women in the Fire Service"? Has anyone ever been to the annual conference?

I was looking at going last year, but unfortunately the conference was during Fire Prevention Week, and NO one gets away during then. Hopefully they will plan it better next year.

Thanks for the response Ladycapn. I use to subscribe to the newsletter years ago, but became a little tired of some of the articles. Seemed like a lot of workers comp issues. However, I would like to check out the conference and maybe put together a course to instruct. Do you have your instructor for FO1 or Inspector?
How are things in Ontario? Department wise that is. Things are picking up here in Florida...this is our busy (tourist) season.
I'm on duty today (11/22) and am looking forward to our Thanksgiving dinner. The people have been pouring into the stations with gifts, food and cards etc. A little wierd, but nice. Hopefully I'll receive some more feed back from our other sisters on the posted event. Be Safe.

Hey Skeester,
I had been a member of WFS for 10 years up until last year. To tell you the truth, I just got tired of some of the same ole’ beaten records being played. I did go to one conference and it was well organized. There were many workshops to attend with diverse disciplines. I would highly recommend that anyone who has not attended one of their International Conferences to do so. If nothing else, it is a great way of meeting other women facing the same challenges that you too face each day. I have never been to any of the Leadership Conferences. It is more limited in the course offerings, but have heard many good things from those who have attended.
Some of the bigger departments will pay employees to attend such conferences. I say put you name in the hat, and see if they will. If not, I know it is money up front, but it is tax deductible at the end of the year.
Keep an eye on your 6, and the other on your buddies!

Thanks Sparkie911. An international conference does sound pretty cool. It is a shame that the newletter is still the same. I tried to look for it on line...but no luck. I'll have to look else where for a schedule of events for 2002. If you have a schedule for next year, I would gladly hook up for a copy. Or, if you hear of anything interesting don't hesitate to let me know. I would really like to see the women firefighters of the world train together more often and become a stronger, more established sisterhood.
Thanks again.
