Can anyone point me to books or other publications on the history and operations of the London Fire Brigade in the UK? I found a neat website through Firehouse.com but now have a number of questions. (Of course.) Here's one -- Can anyone explain the system for numbering the London stations, a letter followed by a number, i.e. A24. Thanks! Vinny.

UPDATE -- Daily World of Fire for 30 Nov. 1999 contained outstanding explainer on London Fire Brigade. WOF has also been listing run reports for London. Good stuff!
