HELP! About 2-3 years ago I started keeping some disposable cameras around; and I have taken some pretty good pictures of fires, apparatus, and of my brother and sister firefighters doing their 24/7 thing. I think I might ask Santa for something better than those disposables I've been using - what kind do you suggest?
PS: I know absolutley NOTHING about cameras so pleeeeze keep it simple. Thanks!

Ohh, you hit my specialty. It depends on how much you want to spend and what type of camera you are looking for, but I will throw out my two cents.
I don't even know if they manufacture them anymore, but I use a Nikon model 4004(otherwise check out the N60, which new is pricier). It is the smallest of the Nikon SLR models, which means it looks like a professional camera, but is much easier to use. You can get one used for about $200. I highly recommend that if you are looking for a camera like this to buy a Nikon. I have also used Canon's SLR models and I personally don't like them.
Now, if that is out of your price range, I recommend a Canon Sure Shoot. Much more compact and you still have the ability to zoom in on things. I am unsure of the price, but it should be cheaper than the the SLR.
I hope I have been able to give you a start. Try:

I shoot pictures with a Canon "Rebel" (S model) and a Tamron 28-200mm zoom lens with a Quantaray QB-7500B flash. This is a fully automatic autofocus camera, VERY simple to use and works great. I've got hundreds of great fireground shots with this rig. I also shoot weddings with it on the side. I have a Canon Rebel "X" model with a 80-200mm canon zoom lens and a canon speedlite flash as a backup camera.
My favorite thing to carry on the fireground is a Sony Mavica FD-83 digital camera. Takes GREAT pictures and very easy & convenient. Within a few minutes of getting back from a call I can throw together a quick Powerpoint show of the shots I got at a call and sent out to our department members. Hope this info helps.......
