· HOWELL TWP. (MONMOUTH Co.), NJ: (14:30hrs EST) *Fatal MVA/Fire* on Rt.9 in front of All State Fence. 4 car MVA resulted in 1 female driver heavily pinned in her car which became fully involved in fire before she could be removed. Victim was conscious while rescue attempt was underway. [EAN27/540/10/100]. 6:00p.m.

· Final update – MANHATTAN, NY: **2nd Alarm** Box 0453 at 245 10th Street near 2nd Ave. 5-story brick 75x40 occupied multple dwelling. Fire 4th floor. All fire knocked down. Primary search negative other than 1 (10-45 Code-2). Fire is PWH b/o DIV1. [MNS-30*IAP] * 9:26p.m.

· SOUTHFIELD, MI: Final update: *3rd Alarm Equiv.* 27676 Franklin Rd. Fire under control @ approx. 22:00hrs. Extensive overhaul and hot spot work continues. Aggressive stand made to hold to bldg of origin-100 x 100 1 story within complex of several buildings. M/A Companies released. [FNNM-200*>510]. 9:46p.m.

Racine, WI
Apartment Fire

At around 1736hrs, Racine Fire Dept. was dispatched to the 2700 blk of Jacato Dr. The 2nd dispatcher was getting multiple calls of a working fire. Engine 2 on scene reporting a working fire. At this time command called in extra company's. Fire started in the first floor apartment and traveled up and into the 2 nd story apartment, causing some fire and smoke damage to above apartment. This was a 16 apartment building. One female was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation. Rigs on scene were; Engines 2,5,1, Quint 8, Rescue 8, car's 41,43,48 & rehab 64. The cause of the fire is unknown.

Caledonia, WI
House Fire

Caledonian Fire was dispatched to a confirmed house fire by a passing Caledonia PD squad. No one was home at the time the fire broke out. The time of the call was 2117 hrs. The house was a 1 1/2 story wood structure, which fire heavily damaged the second story. The cause of the fire was caused by over loaded circuit. Rig's on scene were; Engine's 221, Reserve 224 (as222), Truck 253, Car 241; Mt.Pleasant Rescue 133, Car 140. Truck 151 changed quarters to Caledonia/Mt.Pleasant station 3. Racine and Oak Creek was on stand by in there own quarters. Rehab 64 was also called for firefighter sand law enforcement.

STRUCTURE FIRE WITH FATALITIES:

On Sunday, January 27, 2002 at 0325 hours four companies of Firefighters and two Rescue Ambulances under the direction of Battalion Commander C. J. Logan responded to a structure fire at 715 East 33rd Street in the Newton area. First companies on the scene reported a garage converted to living quarters with smoke showing. Firefighters using handlines confined the fire to the 20’ x 25’ structure and extinguished the fire in eleven minutes. During firefighting operations the remains of a nineteen-year old male and a twenty-one year old male were discovered. The cause was determined to be a heater too close to combustibles and the loss was estimated to be $7,500. ($5,000 to structure and $2,500 to contents).

LOS ANGELES, CA:
MAJOR EMERGENCY STRUCTURE FIRE

On Sunday, January 27, 2002 at 2218 hours seventeen companies of Firefighters, six Battalion Command Teams and two Rescue Ambulances under the command of Assistant Chief Tim Manning responded to a major emergency structure fire at 6223 South Western Avenue in the South Central area. First units on scene reported a 50’ x 100’ one-story auto body shop with fire through the roof. Firefighters immediately went to heavy streams to knock the bulk of the fire down before going to handlines. The fire was extinguished in thirty-seven minutes. No injuries were reported. The cause is under investigation and the loss is estimated at $125,000. ($100,000 structure and $25,000 contents)

***BALTIMORE, MARYLAND FIRE HISTORY***

for January 27th:

1932: 11 Alarms - 6-6-149 & 5-5-141 - Albemarle & Fleet Sts - Inner Harbor East (Southeast Of Downtown) - Fire involved the Henry P. Duker Lumber Yard - The 2 story brick, block long planning mill was full of fire, & the skylight ventilators along the entire rooftop were belching flames high into the air - Gale winds were blowing burning embers for blocks & alarm after alarm was sounded in quick order, 6 from Box#149 & 5 from Box#141 - After a terribly hard battle by firefighters, the fire was confined to Duker's & the building was gutted - Firefighter George Harrel, E-23, was burned about the face & hands. 1961: 4 Alarms - Holabird Ave - Canton (Southeast Baltimore) - Fire involved the Pennsylvania Railroad's Canton Repair Shop. (CHM1)

1967: 4 Alarms - Box#7947 - 1122hrs - 4801 Greenspring Ave - Pimlico (Northwest Baltimore) - Fire involved the 2 story 75x150 Mercantile Club - Fire burned out the 1st & 2nd floors & through the roof - It is believed that the building was struck by lightning. (CHM1)

1986: 2 Alarms - Box#10-228 - 0219hrs - 3101 S Hanover St - South Baltimore - Fire involved furniture in the 3rd floor solarium @ South Baltimore General Hospital - The 3rd & 4th floors were heavily charged with smoke - The fire was quickly knocked down, but some time was necessary to clear the smoke from the areas involved - Arson is suspected.
