· JERSEY CITY (HUDSON Co.), NJ: 22-425 *2nd Alarm* at 272 Hutton St. Fire in basement of a 4 sty brick "H" occupied multiple dwelling 100x100. Have a prior working fire also ongoing @ Box 448 at 3469 Kennedy Blvd, also a basement fire in a 4-story brick occupied multiple dwelling. [MNS342 IAP]. 1:49a.m.

· JERSEY CITY (HUDSON Co.), NJ: 3-425 *3rd Alarm* at 272 Hutton St. Fire in basement of a 4-story brick "H" occupied multiple dwelling 100x100. · MANHATTAN, NY: 33-1274 **3rd Alarm** at 117 E.101 St. between Lexington/Park Ave. Fire into exposure 3 at 119 E.101 St. 5-story. [MNS-154*]. 2:24a.m.

· CECIL Co., MD: **2nd alarm** building fire on S Main St. Co#4 - Northeast / "Mariner Building" / C-4 requests notify Conectiv Power Co., Water Dept., Mayor's Office, & Fire Marshall. [DC/BMD/E*23]. 3:18a.m.

· JERSEY CITY, NY: A 4th Alarm was struck @ 272 Hutton St., but not announced on radio. Fire is U/C. [103]. 3:32a.m.

· 2nd Alarm - LEXINGTON, MA: Box 28 for 542 Massachusetts Ave. Garage fire. *154.340* [TAC9-C79]. 3:43p.m.

· Update: 2nd Alarm - LEXINGTON, MA 542 Massachusetts Ave. Command reports a 25x40 garage with heavy fire knocked down - Companies opening roof. PWH [TAC9-C79]. 3:59a.m.

· BROOKLYN, NY: 22-580 *2nd Alarm* at 506 Warren St. x Bond/Nevins Sts. Fire 2nd floor with extension to 3rd floor of a 4-story occupied multiple dwelling 25x50. L118 FAST. An additional Truck (TL105) S/C prior to 2nd Alarm. [MNS342]. 4:32a.m.

· Update – BROOKLYN, NY: 22-580 *2nd Alarm* at 506 Warren St. x Bond/Nevins Streets. Fire 2nd floor with extension to 3rd floor of a 4story occupied multiple dwelling 25x50. 2 lines stretched operating. B31 is Safety Coordinator, B48 is Communication coordinator & Field Communication still operating at Manhattan’s 44-1274 & not responding. [MNS342]. 4:35a.m.

· Final Update: BROOKLYN, NY: 22-580 *2nd Alarm* at 506 Warren St. x Bond/Nevins Streets. Fire 2nd floor with extension to 3rd floor of a 4-story occupied multiple dwelling 25x50. CAR 4H CWTC Meyers reports fire is knocked down & PWH, return Field Communications Unit. [MNS342]. 4:51a.m.

· ALGONAC (ST. CLAIR Co.), MI: *2nd Alarm Equiv.* at the end of Anchor Bay Dr. on an island. (Lake St. Clair). Large trash fire on the island. Algonac, Ira Twp & Clay Twp FD on M/A. Now requesting DNR Resources to launch a boat to the area. [FNNM-400] (c). 9:10a.m.

· FT. LAUDERDALE, FL: 2nd Alarm fire on the roof of a Highrise Condo. Workers were replacing tiles when roof caught on fire at 3750 Galt Ocean Mile. Heavy smoke/fire showing. [GCFN E/P O/S/ GCFN02]. 9:35a.m.

· STLFN: (08:49hrs) ST. LOUIS, MO: STLFD had a 1st Alarm for a fire at 3966 Keokuk b/o BC 804. It was a 2 story brick with fire on the 2nd floor with a report of people trapped. All occupants were accounted for however an EMS Unit was requested for an occupant with burns and smoke inhalation. They had at least one line off. PUMPERS: 32, 4, 14, 19. HL4, BC 804, 803, SQUAD 1. · 2nd Alarm: BROOKLYN, NY: 22-2508 Ditmas Ave & E 7 St. Fire in a 3-story private dwelling. [MNS -88*-]. 10:09a.m.

· Update – BROOKLYN, NY: 2nd Alarm: 22-2508 at 615 East 7 St. & Ditmas Ave. Fire in a 3-story private dwelling 20/40. 4 lines stretched operating, 2 into fire building & 2 into exposure 2 where fire has spread. 1 T/L in operation in front of fire building. DWH. [MNS -88*-]. 10:25a.m.

· HARRISONVILLE, MO: Working house fire @ 804 Logan x Oakland. Reported as a single family dwelling with smoke showing. South Metro FPD M/A, Belton & Lee’s Summit C/Q. [KCFN-02]. 10:34a.m.

· Update – BROOKLYN, NY: 2nd Alarm Box 2503, 615 East 7th Ave. S/C 2 additional Trucks. All searches complete (-), with the exception of the attic of the fire bldg due to partial collapse. Fire is U/C. EMS treating 9 Firefighters for various injuries. [EAN2/388/100]. 11:06a.m.

· STLFN: WASHINGTON PARK (ST.CLAIR Co.), IL: Washington Park FD is on scene of a working house fire @ 1617 N.55th St. Caseyville FD responding M/A. (STL 835). 4:40p.m.

· STLFN: O’FALLON (ST.CLAIR Co.), IL O’Fallon FD is on scene of a 4 car MVA* on Lebanon Ave. x Christine Dr. Chief 4300 advised to pop the door of one of the cars and for Engine 4324 to pull a trash line Co.'s on scene: 4300,4301,4321,4324. · STLFN: ST.CLAIR Co., IL: Church Road FD is on the scene of a house fire @ 716 Mousette Lane. Fire is in the basement. Alorton FD responding M/A. Utilities en-route. (STL 835). 5:32p.m.

· DENVER, CO: 1055 Logan *2nd Alarm* structure fire in a High-rise – fire out the windows. 2nd Alarm issued on first Companies arrival. Command Staff to the scene. [MNN 001 O/S 264/14.33 MST. DEN]. 5:41p.m.

· LOS ANGELES, CA: LA City Fire: Greater Alarm: Auto vs. 15 students in parking lot of Westminster Academy, 1499 Colorado Blvd in Eagle Rock. At least 2 critical. 2 Air-Ambulances. Vehicle picking up children went out of control. [FIREPAGE (R) LA-1R]. 5:52p.m.

· KANSAS CITY, MO: Working house fire @ 7828 Summit x 78th St. 1-story frame well involved. 1 small line off at this time. CAR107, P28, P30, R9, T11, T7. [KCFN-02]. 8:04p.m.

· KANSAS CITY, MO: Working house fire @ 3912 Cleveland x 39th Street. Reported as a well involved single family dwelling. Short of Companies dues to several calls of trees/wires down around the city. [KCFN-02]. 8:19p.m.

· UPPER DARBY TWP. (DELAWARE Co.), PA: *L-O-D-D* at 2135hrs EST, an Officer was investigating reports of a disturbance on the 6700 block of Perry Ave. Officer was shot in face by a male who is a member of the Pagan Motorcycle Gang. Officer succumbed to his injuries approx 1 hr ago. Suspect is a Thomas J. Campbell. He is a white male 6'5 200lbs with a tattoo of “pagans forever and 1%er on his forearms. Last seen driving a blue Neon with PA tags. May the Officer rest in peace. [EAN3305]. 11:45p.m.

JERSEY CITY, NJ: 3rd Alarm - 1/28/02

Monday 3rd Alarm Jersey City 9 Parnell Pl Fire in a 2 1/2 sty Fr. Fire throughout upon arrival 2nd Alarm upon arrival 3 jumpers 1 adult and 2 children. 3rd Alarm due to the heavy volume of fire. Former Fire Director Roman operated on the roof with truck company. 7 handlines and 1 ladderpipe operated. Arson requested due to heavy fire upon arrival. Reports of a delay in response were unfounded as first alarm of fire was transmitted at 16:22 and 1st unit (Eng 19) arrived at 16:25. 2nd Alarm was transmitted at 16:27.

Prince William Co., Va. Haymarket
About 0030 Box 0406 for the Haymarket Town Hall on Washington St. at Fayette St. Q-4 E15-11-5-1-9 T-11 R-4 A 4-11M-54 BC-1 (Pescitani) Fire involved the first floor Coucil Chambers with extention to floor 2. The building is a 2 story wood frame 20' X 60' chuch type structure built around 1833. An agressive, slashing interior attack resulted in an excellent stop and control in about 30 minutes. Units remained on the scene for about 4 hours conducting salvage operations.

Engine 4 is the Chief Seattle, fireboat.

Thirteen pleasure craft were completly destroyed, and had sunk.
Another 10 were damaged.

Today, Wednesday, Jan 30, 2002 the salvage crews were on scene
to recover the sunken boats so the fire marshal can make a determination.

***BALTIMORE, MARYLAND FIRE HISTORY***

for January 30th:

1959: 4 Alarms - 3205 Elgin Ave - Walbrook (Northwest Of Downtown) - Fire involved an apartment building. (CHM1)

1960: 6 Alarms - Box#581 - 320 W Saratoga St - Downtown West - Fire involved Baum's Restaurant. (CHM1)

1965: 5 Alarms + Special Call 3 Engines - 601-619 E Biddle St - North Of Downtown - Fire involved (5) 3 story brick buildings of the Baltimore Motor Coach Company. (CHM1)

1972: Harford County - Jarrettsville Rd - Cooptown - Fire involved Gene's Bar & Grill - (3) Belair VFC firefighters were injured attempting to rescue 2 teenaged girls - Their attempts were futile, & the girls' bodies were later recovered under the debris where they had been trapped - The (3) firefighters, James Foard, Mel Kulis, & Harry Hopkins, received burns that sent them to the hospital. (BVFD)

1975: 4 Alarms - Box#269 - 1217hrs - Monument St & Patterson Park Ave - East Baltimore - Fire involved the renovated 1 story brick Goldenberg-McCoy Store, which was formerly the Red Wing Theatre - Heavy smoke was showing & BC-2, Albert E. Stanek, radioed for the 2nd alarm @ 1223hrs - DC Joseph P. Piechocki ordered the 3rd alarm @ 1228hrs & the 4th alarm @ 1236hrs - It was 1st noticed by an employee who said the whole middle of the store, where counters were piled with clothing, blazed up all of a sudden & quickly burned out the entire building. (TUH)

1975: 5 Alarms - Box#1828 - 1456hrs - Pier#1 - 1700 S Clinton St - Canton (Southeast Baltimore) - Fire involved the freighter S. S. Orli - The large freighter was ready to put to sea & welders had just completed lashing down stacks of prefabbed houses to the upper deck, when it is believed a spark from a torch fanned by high winds started the blaze - Lieutenant Albert Weiss, E-50, radioed for the 2nd alarm @ the same time as BC-5, Charles E. Loughlin, did @ 1502hrs - The towering pile of containers of cargo on the top deck of the Israeli ship necessitated extending aerial ladders so that firefighters could climb aboard the burning vessel & play hose streams on the plastic covering which generated thick blue-gray smoke - DC Joseph P. Piechocki ordered the 3rd alarm sounded @ 1513hrs, 4th alarm @ 1517hrs, & 5th alarm @ 1525hrs - Firefighters cut through the smoldering stacks of cargo to make sure that no embers were hidden, the gigantic mop-up keeping them busy far into the night. (TUH)

1975: 4 Alarms - Box#2128 - 1848hrs - 350 N Gay St - Old Town (Northeast Of Downtown) - Fire involved the 3 story brick 147 year old Clover Horn Company which was stocked full of tallow & incense used to make religious candles - Heavy clouds of sweet smelling acrid smoke, mingled with bursts of blue-green flames caused BC-2, Lester E. Helfrich, to radio for the 2nd alarm @ 1857hrs - Acting DC Charles E. Kauffman, BC-6, ordered the 3rd alarm @ 1905hrs - The fire was marked by a series of small explosions, caused by bursting cans of aerosol spray which kept firefighters hopping around dodging the lethal missiles - Chief of the Department Thomas J. Burke ordered the 4th alarm @ 1928hrs, considering the fatigued firefighters, some of whom had worked the previous ship fire & as a large overhauling operation was in store - The owner & occupant cut his arm badly as he escaped out the back window of the burning building, which could be reached from the Orleans St Viaduct. (TUH)

1981: Baltimore County: A working dwelling fire was reported @ 10080 Railroad Ave, White Marsh (Co#20 - Cowenton VFC) - The fire was extinguished within an hour with the original 1st alarm assignment - During overhaul operations, Firefighter Thomas J. Levy, T-8 (Fullerton Career), returned to the apparatus for equipment - While @ the truck, Levey suffered a heart attack - He was rushed to Franklin Square Hospital where he died within the hour. 1996: 1 Alarm + Special Call 1 Air Cascade(2), 7 ALS Medics(7, 11, 1, 16, 15, 5, & 10), Fire Investigation(9 & 6), 3 EMS Supervisors(3, 2, & 4), 2 Safety Officers(2 & 1), Police Arson(43 & 44), FD Chaplain(88), & 1 BLS Ambulance(41) - Box#296 - 0759hrs - 322 E Biddle St - East Of Downtown - Fire involved a 3 story brick rowhouse - T-16, stationed a few blocks away, saw flames & heavy smoke as they pulled out of their quarters - When they pulled in front of the burning dwelling they realized it was going to be the scene of a tragedy - (2) civilians were lying on the front sidewalk, burned & bleeding - In all, (7) adults & children were injured by the fire - Of these, (4) children eventually died of massive burns & the 21 year old mother of 1 of those died 3 weeks after the fire of burns & a broken back - Before the arrival of the 1st due, neighbors & passers-by aided in the rescue of the occupants as they fell or jumped from the burning dwelling - In 1 instance, a passer-by smashed a window with a trash can & a baseball bat so that (2) people could crawl outside - The same man received a burn on his wrist from the burned flesh of a 10 month old victim. 1998: 2 Alarms - Box#88 - 2004hrs - 2133 Denison St - Walbrook (Northwest Of Downtown) - Fire involved a 3 story woodframe dwelling. (TGA)

30JAN1994 - Alameda Creek, CA - Rail Accident/HAZMAT - A freight car derails, causing a Hazardous Materials spill. The spill was so extensive that clean-up and containment activities were not completed for over six months.

30JAN1911 - Philippines - Volcano - Taal, erupts killing more than 1,300 and injuring 199.
