EXPLOSION:
On Wednesday, February 13, 2002, at 1035 hours, five companies of Los Angeles Firefighters, seven LAFD Rescue Ambulances, and two Battalion Command Teams, under the direction Assistant Chief Terry Manning, responded to a reported explosion in the vicinity of West 3rd Street and North Vermont Avenue in the Angelino Heights area. First units on the scene reported smoke emanating from an under ground electrical vault and a report of several workers injured inside the vault. As a result of what was determined to be a “flash fire”, there were eight injuries, all Department of Water and Power employees. One male was listed in critical condition with burns and smoke inhalation and was transported to County USC Medical Center. Seven other male workers suffered minor smoke inhalation and were transported to three area hospitals (Hollywood Presbyterian, Kaiser Sunset, and Good Samaritan). The cause of the “flash fire” is under investigation by the Department of Water and Power.

CFN, Columbia Fire Net, is a product of the Columbia, Missouri Fire Department. It was established to provide information via pagers to Chief Officers, Rescue and HazMat Team members and eventually to any interested CFD member. The pagers are provided at no cost to CFD members. With 4 pin options available, members could select any 2 additional types of pages. Obviously their individual pin, then a CFD all call pin and their choice of 2 more. About 2 dozen elected to receive CFN as one of their options. As of this writing there are 4 who are authorized to send out national pages. National paging will remain a very closely held authority. Since we are new, we have a rather steep learning curve. As Fire Chief, Wm. Markgraf is the nominal head of the system. The other 3 "national dispatchers" are employees of the CFD.
The telephone number for the Columbia Fire Department is 573 874 7391.

This is Cincinnati District Four Chief Jay Boeing reporting on a structure fire which occurred in the Avondale neighborhood of Cincinnati this afternoon. The fire started at 3:30p m this afternoon in the second floor of a three-story multi-dwelling located at 3548 Harvey Ave. A passer-by noticed smoke coming from the second floor of the building and notified the Cincinnati Fire Department.
The first arriving fire companies found heavy smoke coming from the second and third floor. Members of Ladder Company 32 assisted three children from the 1st floor of the burning building while members of E-32 made an aggressive interior attack on the out of control fire on the second floor.
This coordinated effort allowed the fire to be extinguished rapidly, with no injuries to Fire Fighters or civilians. This fire did $10,000 damage to the building and its contents. Smoke detectors were present and sounding on the second floor of the fire building.
The cause of this fire is undetermined at this time and is being investigated by our Fire Investigative Unit, for more information contact District Chief Anson Turley at 352-2333

One male was listed in critical condition with burns and smoke inhalation and was transported to County USC Medical Center. Seven other male workers suffered minor smoke inhalation and were transported to three area hospitals (Hollywood Presbyterian, Kaiser Sunset, and Good Samaritan). *** FireNet Group Of The Day: ***
CFN, Columbia Fire Net, is a product of the Columbia, Missouri Fire Department.
