· STLFN: ST.LOUIS, MO: STLFD is working a smoke inhalation incident @ 5933 Theodore. Mattress fire. 2 adults & 2 children being treated for smoke inhalation. S/C Medic Units. PUMPERS: 27-12-33, BC806, DC810. [STL899]. 6:40a.m.

· MFN-FIRE/EMS: HARFORD Co, MD: *2nd Alarm Dwelling Fire @ 2144 Northridge Rd. Command reports heavy fire showing. Crews advancing at this time. Ops on Ch1. [MFN1]. 7:17a.m.

· OWOSSO TWP. (SHIAWASSEE Co.), MI: **3rd Alarm Equiv.** 4367 North Ridge x Kirby. 2 very large barn fires. M/A from numerous area FD's & from Saginaw Co. MON: 154.355MHz [FNNM-466,566>400]. 7:32a.m.

· GREENSBORO (GUILFORD Co.), NC: *3rd Alarm Fatal* 904 Howard St. (UNC-G area). 3-story Apartment building with heavy fire showing. Multiple civilian rescues & some jumpers. Companies found 1 civilian DOA, 2 still missing. 1 Firefighter with minor ankle injury. Fire now under control. [CFP*599]. 7:34a.m.

· STLFN: ST. LOUIS, MO: STLFD Collapse Rescue Task Force assignment to 20th and Warren. A truck has crashed into a building. Pumper 5 on the scene. [STL810]. 9:59a.m.

· STLFN: LEMAY (ST. LOUIS Co.), MO: Lemay FPD *1st Alarm* at 9986 S. Broadway. 1-story brick with smoke showing. STLFD 34 & 1722 assisting. [STL-800]. 11:26a.m.

· STLFN: LEMAY (ST. LOUIS Co.), MO: Update – Lemay FPD’s *1st Alarm* at 9986 S. Broadway. Command states Alarm is under control. 1710 moved up to Lemay’s Engine house. [STL-800]. 11:32a.m.

· BALTIMORE, MD: 2nd Alarm 400 block McCalster St. 2-story vacant building 200x50 - fully involved. [DC15]. 11:37a.m.

· MFN: BALTIMORE, MD: *2nd Alarm Dwelling Fire in the 400 Block North Ave near Brentwood. Command reporting heavy fire showing. [MFN1]. 11:37a.m.

· MFN: QUEEN ANNE Co, MD: Police Officer Down at US Rt-50 @ the Kent Narrows Bridge. Command reports the Officer was attacked and struck in the head with an object (Not Shot). The Officer shot the perpetrator. Both were Medevac'd. NFIATT. [MFN1]. 11:37a.m.

· Update - GREENSBORO, NC *3rd Alarm Multi Fatal* Howard St. at the Campus Walk Apartments. 3-story 12 unit Apartment building. Firefighters found 3 more victims from this mornings fire. Death toll now 4 with 2 still missing. Still on scene, operations continue. [CFP599*702]. 12:27p.m.

· STLFN: CENTREVILLE (ST.CLAIR Co.), IL: Camp Jackson FD is working a structure fire @ 143 Amelia Dr. M/A Cahokia & Prairie DuPont FD's to assist. [STL-vm/899@WRK]. 1:16p.m.

· STLFN: PEVELY (JEFFERSON Co.), MO: Dunklin FPD has a fire on the roof of a building at 1500 St. Gobain. No size up heard but a move up has been made. [STL819]. 1:56p.m.

· STLFN: PEVELY (JEFFERSON Co.), MO: Update Dunklin FPD's 1st Alarm at 1500 St. Gobain. 2 additional Pumpers have been dispatched. Still no size up. [STL819]. 2:19p.m.

· RONKONKOMA (SUFFOLK Co.), NY: ***3rd Alarm Equiv.*** 11 Church St. off Pond Rd. Multiple M/A's for RIT's and Tower Ladders. 6 Tower Ladders in operations at this time. [MNS116/125/213]. 2:54p.m.

· WASHINGTON, DC: Departmental PI at 5th & K Streets NW. Rescue Squad 1 vs. civilian auto while responding. 3 non-life threatening civilian injuries. Request Hazmat for ruptured saddle tank on Squad. [DC2]. 3:42p.m.

· STLFN: BELLEVILLE (ST.CLAIR Co.), IL: Northwest FD on scene of a kitchen fire on Kentsington Heights Rd. Smoke showing on arrival. Fire knocked down by first Engine on scene. *FINAL* (STL 835). 4:11p.m.

· STLFN: BELLEVILLE (ST.CLAIR Co.), IL: Belleville FD on scene of a kitchen fire @ 228 Freedom Dr. Engine 3 reports light smoke showing. Companies on scene: Engine 3 Truck 2, Chief 3. Engine 1 moving up. Fire is now under control. Companies will be ventilating. (STL 835). 4:15p.m.

· Final Update – RONKONKOMA (SUFFOLK Co.), NY: ***Third Alarm*** 11 Church St. off Pond Rd. Fire in numerous Commercial buildings. Started in JC Auto Collision. Command requests DPW for pay loaders to assist in overhaul. Some M/A's being released. Still have a smoke condition, but main body of fire knocked down. [MNS116/433/125/213/805]. 5:52p.m.

· STLFN: CENTERVILLE (St. CLAIR Co.), IL: Midway FD on scene of a working house fire @ 152 N.73rd St. Church Road FD responding M/A. State Park FD also responding M/A with an Air Cascade. (STL 835). 8:33p.m.

· STLFN: CENTREVILLE (ST. CLAIR Co.), IL: Update on Midway FD’s working fire @ 152 N. 73rd St. Midway FD put in a call for additional manpower. (STL 835). 8:37p.m.

· STLFN: CENTREVILLE (ST. CLAIR Co.), IL: Update on Midway FD’s working fire @ 152 N. 73rd St. Move-ups made. Red Cross en-route for family assistance. (STL 835). 9:03a.m.

· UNION Co., OHIO: *General Alarm fire & Explosion* Honda Of America Plant, 24000 Honda Parkway. Several explosions in paint area. Disaster Plan in effect for area hospitals. [FPO/249/223/D320] (c). 9:53p.m.

· STLFN: BELLEVILLE (ST. CLAIR Co.), IL: Northwest FD along with M/A from Signl Hill FD was on scene of a fire in the laundry room of a residence @ 223 Bernard Apartments. An AMBO was requested for an unknown reason. Fire is now under control. *FINAL* (STL 835). 10:11p.m.

· STLFN: COLLINSVILLE (MADISON Co.), IL: State Park FD on scene of a trailer fire @ 220 Jessie St. Caseyville FD responding M/A. Utilities en-route. (STL 835). 10:28p.m.

· QUEENS, NY: 22-6720 *2nd Alarm* Winchester Blvd & Hillside Ave, Grounds of former Creedmore State Hospital. Fire in a building under construction 100x35, light wood truss construction. Fire appears to be in basement on arrival of BC53. [MNS342]. 11:28p.m.

· Update – QUEENS, NY: 22-6720 *2nd alarm* Winchester Blvd & Hillside Ave. BC53 reports 3-story frame Townhouse units under control 100x35 & attached to a similar structure. Fire in basement. Propane tank problem. Exterior operations. 3 lines stretched operating. B50 Safety, B52 communication coordinator. [MNS342]. 11:31p.m.

· Update – QUEENS, NY: 22-6720 *2nd Alarm* Winchester Blvd & Hillside Ave. D14 reports fire in middle of Townhouse complex under construction. Difficult access. Buildings are 3 frame100x35 attached. Fire is in attic. 3 lines stretched operating. 2nd TAC S/C. [MNS342] 11:46p.m.

Mt.Pleasant, WI
House Fire

At 1234 hrs. Mt. Pleasant Fire was dispatched to the 4400 blk of Shorehaven Ln to a report a active house fire. First engine on scene reported heavy smoke showing. This was a single story residents L shaped home. One person from the local phone company went into the resident's to retrieve a cat. A 60 year old female & the phone company person was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. One firefighter was also injured with a strained shoulder; all were treated and released from the hospital. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. Rig's on scene were; Mt. Pleasant Engine's 121,122,123, Truck 151, Car's 141,142. Sturtevant Rescue 135, Racine Rescue 1. Racine Fire Bells was also called to the fire for rehab.

Somers, WI
Wood Pile Fire

At about 1330 hrs, Somers Fire was dispatched to the corners of Hwy's E & 31 for a report of a large brush fire out of control. A MABAS Tanker box was called. The worker's at the site was burning trash in a barrel where a spark started the wood pile on fire. The pile was about 20' long, 20' wide & 10' Tall. The wind had a big factor on fighting this fire. Rig's on scene were; Somers, Engine 6311,6312, Tankers' 6352, 6353?, Rescue's 6342, 6343, Paris Tanker, 5562, Pleasant Prairie 5612. One firefighter was injured with an unknown object in his eye. Rehab was also called. Note; Rehab was at previous call in Mt.Pleasant. Somer's remained on scene for a total of 6 hrs. Front end loaders were moving large log's so firefighter's could hit the hot spot's.

***BALTIMORE, MARYLAND FIRE HISTORY***

for February 15th:

1882: E-4 occupied their new quarters on the north side of Lexington St, between North & Davis Sts, Downtown East - It is a 2 story brick building on a lot 120'x21'9", costing $13,000 & the lot $2,000 - An innovation was the slanting of the ground floor 15" toward the front in order to give the horse drawn engine a faster start - The cellar was given over to the keeping of the Department supplies. (TUH)

1893: E-18 was organized & placed in active service in new quarters on the south side of 2nd St (now 22nd St), between Maryland Ave & Oak St (now Howard St), Charles Village (North Of Downtown) - It was the 1st new steam engine company in the new annex - The firehouse is a 2 story brick building on a lot 140'x36', costing $ 13,606 & the lot $3,400 - There were 2 doors for the exit of the apparatus - E-18 received a new LaFrance Steam Engine & their 1st Captain was Frederick Branan, from Hook & Ladder #4 - They were disbanded on 12/14/1991 & the station was recently demolished for a shopping center. 1941: 14 Alarms - 6-6-1834, 5-5-2336, 2-2-2338, & Box#2346 - 1927hrs - 4500 E Lombard St - East Baltimore - Fire involved the 2 block long brick Weiskittle Plant of the Maryland Sanitary Company - After the fire was out, only the walls were left standing. (TUH)

1954: 5 Alarms - Box#524 - 428 S Charles St - Otterbein (South Of Downtown) - Fire involved the 5 story brick Woolford Bag Company. (CHM1)

1968: Baltimore County - 3 Alarms - 10000 York Rd - Co#17 - Texas - Fire destroyed The Better Block & Supply Company - Operations were hampered by the collapse of the roof & the 30-40 propane cylinders stored in a truck next to the building - The fire caused $250,000 in damage. (TTFD)

1978: 9 Alarms - 6-6-3521 & 3-3-388 - 1401hrs - 1526 Park Ave - Bolton Hill (Northwest Of Downtown) - Fire involved the 4 story brick Beethoven North Apartments, a group of (11) Victorian rowhouses put together to form 1, 64 unit apartment building - Renovators had lowered ceilings, made hallways transverse the 11 old homes, installed a central elevator, put up partitions, & still preserved the Victorian charm of rich decor to attract & hold a full house of some 200 residents who came with money to spend on lavish furnishings & other decorative items - The fire started when an 11y/o boy lost a tennis ball under his bed in a 3rd floor apartment & lit a candle looking for the ball, setting his bed on fire - A Baltimore City Police Officer, Edgar J. Rumpf, had rescued (2) children & went back inside, never to be seen again - When 1st alarm companies consisting of *E-1*, *E-18*, *E-25*, *E-28*, T-16, *T-11*, & BC-3 arrived, they found heavy smoke showing from several windows on the 3rd floor (Note: Companies with "*" have since been disbanded) - BC-3 asked for the 2nd alarm @ 1409hrs, 8 minutes after the 1st alarm - The 2nd alarm consisted of E-8, E-23, *E-15*, AirFlex, T-10, T-2, BC-4, & DC-1 - DC-1 requested the 3rd alarm @ 1412hrs, consisting of *E-9*, *E-38*, E-6, Rescue-1, *Water Tower #1* (Snorkle), T-5, & *T-13* - As the 4th floor became involved, the 4th alarm consisting of E-13, *E-7*, *E-19*, *T-4*, T-1, BC-5, & Chief Of The Department was sounded @ 1419hrs - Companies were working inside trying to contain the fire & ventilating from the outside as the fire still spread - DC-1 ordered the 5th alarm @ 1426hrs & *E-22*, E-5, & *E-37* responded - 4 minutes later @ 1430hrs, he ordered the 6th alarm bringing E-27, E-35, & E-52 to the scene - By this time, callback personnel were reporting to duty & activating reserve apparatus - The 4th floor is now well involved & anxious tenants, nearly all of whom were working, began to come to the scene & stare in shock, keeping their eyes trained on their windows hoping that firefighters can stop the blaze before it reaches their windows & their priceless possessions inside - With all the false ceilings & partitions, water has no chance to even find the fire other than what it showing - As sections of the floors start to collapse, all firefighters are ordered out & the search for the missing police officer is abandoned - Deck pipes, ladder pipes, & the Water Tower go into operation as more & more collapses occur - @ 1458hrs, the 1st alarm (7th alarm) on adjacent Box#388 is sounded bringing E-46, *E-12*, E-21, E-36, *T-17*, *T-7*, & BC-2 to the scene - 1 minute later @ 1459hrs, the 2nd alarm (8th alarm) on Box#388 is sounded & E-20, *E-32*, E-31, E-33, *T-9*, T-18, & Reserve Air Cascade 1 respond - The fire continues to spread & the 3rd alarm (9th alarm) on Box#388 is sounded @ 1523hrs & E-2, E-51, *E-34*, T-12, T-3, & *BC-7* are assigned - With this, more off duty members are activating reserve equipment & Baltimore County E-101 (Towson) transfers to City E-32, E-61 (Dundalk) transfers to City E-6, & Anne Arundel County E-32 transfers to City E-15 (Steadman Station) - Around 1800hrs the fire is placed under control & the search for the missing police officer is resumed - His last radio transmission was about 1405hrs stating that he was on the 3rd floor & that he was trapped - A Chaplain is called inside, but it turns out to be the remains of a closet all bundled into a heap on the floor & looking somewhat like a body - All night long firefighters search through the debris & @ dawn, the remains of Officer Rumpf are located @ the bottom of the elevator shaft. 1995: 2 Alarms - Box#283 - 0006hrs - 1000 N Chapel St - Northeast Of Downtown - Fire burned out a brick rowhouse - A firefighter from E-51 was transported by M-7 to the University Of Maryland Shock Trauma Center for treatment. (TGA)

1998: 2 Alarms + Special Call 6 Medics(6, 18, 10, 5, 2, & 3) - Box#8196 - 1234hrs - 4805 Lorrely Ave - Northeast Baltimore - Fire involved the 2nd & 3rd floors of a 3 story garden apartment building & was caused by children playing with matches - The fire caused $170,000 in damages & forced 31 occupants out of their apartments - (4) residents, (2) firefighters, & (1) police officer were treated @ Johns Hopkins hospital for smoke inhalation & other injuries - (8) residents jumped from the upper floors - 2 years ago, the same building was struck by another fire started by children playing with matches - That fire killed (1) child & burned a 2nd youngster. 2001: 3 Alarms + Hazmat(E-35, T-21, Hazmat-1, & BC-6) - Box#20-3 - 1300 Moreland Ave - Rosemont (Northwest Of Downtown) - Fire involved the 50'x100' corrugated metal tire warehouse of the Emanuel Tire Company. (GTE*TGA)
