***BALTIMORE, MARYLAND FIRE HISTORY***
for February 23rd:
1859: @ 0015hrs, the 1st fire was recorded by the new "paid" Baltimore Fire Department - A brick cabinet makers shop & dwelling on Broadway, south of Pratt St, was on fire - After 2 hours of hard work by the whole department, the fire was extinguished. (TUH)
1958: 8 Alarms - 6-6-725 & 2-2-7343 - 1350hrs - 109 Landwehr Ln - West Baltimore - Fire involved the 4 story, 100 year old Strippy Storage Company - 6 alarms were sounded in 17 minutes - When the fire consumed the wood contents of the building & intensified, Acting Chief John J. Killen sounded the 2nd alarm (8th alarm) from adjacent Box#7343 @ 1447hrs - Shortly afterwards, the 2nd & 3rd floors collapsed, pulling out a section of the back wall - Injured were Firefighters Ernest Sauble, James White, & Gordon LaRicci, E-14, Charles Finney, T-23, & John F. Murk, E-53 - When the fire was extinguished, only the broken walls were left standing. (CHM1*TUH)

· FireHISTORY: FEB 22, 1902 at 1:30p.m. in MANHATTAN, NY: 66-55-443 at the 71st Regiment Armory on the east side of Park Ave between 33rd & 34th Streets. Explosions from gunpowder sent flying brands across the street to the 8-story Park Ave Hotel starting a major fire, which resulted in the death of 21 guests. Many members were awarded medals for heroic rescues – including two with scaling ladders at the 5th & 6th floors. *FEB 23, 1923 the BROOKLYN, NY COMMUNICATIONS OFFICE moved from the old Brooklyn Fire Headquarters at 365 Jay St. to new quarters at 35 Empire Blvd. They are still operating form here after 79 years – dispatching over 125,000 incidents per year. ***BALTIMORE, MARYLAND FIRE HISTORY***
for February 23rd:
1859: @ 0015hrs, the 1st fire was recorded by the new "paid" Baltimore Fire Department - A brick cabinet makers shop & dwelling on Broadway, south of Pratt St, was on fire - After 2 hours of hard work by the whole department, the fire was extinguished. (TUH)
1958: 8 Alarms - 6-6-725 & 2-2-7343 - 1350hrs - 109 Landwehr Ln - West Baltimore - Fire involved the 4 story, 100 year old Strippy Storage Company - 6 alarms were sounded in 17 minutes - When the fire consumed the wood contents of the building & intensified, Acting Chief John J. Killen sounded the 2nd alarm (8th alarm) from adjacent Box#7343 @ 1447hrs - Shortly afterwards, the 2nd & 3rd floors collapsed, pulling out a section of the back wall - Injured were Firefighters Ernest Sauble, James White, & Gordon LaRicci, E-14, Charles Finney, T-23, & John F. Murk, E-53 - When the fire was extinguished, only the broken walls were left standing. (CHM1*TUH)

· FireHISTORY: FEB 22, 1902 at 1:30p.m. in MANHATTAN, NY: 66-55-443 at the 71st Regiment Armory on the east side of Park Ave between 33rd & 34th Streets. Explosions from gunpowder sent flying brands across the street to the 8-story Park Ave Hotel starting a major fire, which resulted in the death of 21 guests. Many members were awarded medals for heroic rescues – including two with scaling ladders at the 5th & 6th floors. *FEB 23, 1923 the BROOKLYN, NY COMMUNICATIONS OFFICE moved from the old Brooklyn Fire Headquarters at 365 Jay St. to new quarters at 35 Empire Blvd. They are still operating form here after 79 years – dispatching over 125,000 incidents per year.
