Would any females that have taken the CPAT, please tell me what you think of it? The females at my department were hired on before they required it. I don't know any other women that have taken it. I am currently trying to prepare for it. Could you give me some tips? :D

Thank you!!!!!!!

There is a good article by one woman who took the CPAT last summer, at www.wfsi.org/CPATMontana.html

Hope this is helpful.

hey all this is the first time i've been on here so i am kind of new to this. as far as the cpat i can tell you i took it last year and it is not an easy agility test at all i will be taking it again in april and this year i feel i am more prepared for it. lots of work on your legs to strengthen them and build up endurance it will tax your legs and your cardio greatly. good luck to you i will try to get some more info that is helpful for you

smkeaterchic,
just a little more info on the cpat. the austin, tx fire dept has some really good info that may help you. they were part of the many depts involved in putting their blessing on this test along with the iaff. there are some things i can tell you that might help you out being as i took the test last year and did not realize just how difficult a test it is compared to others that i have taken that were quite easy in comparison. 1. build some upper body strength and if you have the strenghth keep it and stay in shape. 2. definitely build up the strength and endurance in your legs they will get the most use and abuse. 3. build your cardiovascular system up as much as possible some departments offer an orientation type of class for the cpat and those who will be taking it soon and/or let prospective cadets do what they call a run-thru to have an idea of the difficulty and what to expect as well as where you stand on a personal level in the process meaning you will have an idea on what you need to work on most. look into the depts in your area and see if they have anything to offer as far as preparation for this test. i hope that this helps you out some you can e-mail me at fyrpwr15@netscape.net if you have any more questions i may be able to help you out with some numbers here. good luck to you and stay safe.

If you are refering to the cpat test,or pac test that the Forest service uses...the 3 mi. hike with a 45-50 lb pac?....Rollerblade! I was the first person ,I mean I beat everybody when we took it , and I even slowed down so I would have someone to talk too...The guys were all com plaining that their calves and shims were killing them...the muscles you use to rollerblade are a bit different than hiking,running,biking...but they are the exact ones that get stressed when you apply the weight vest...
If this isnt the test you are referring too,
nevermind...if its a basic multi tasked fire agility test,
work on your foreams, use a weight ,tie it to about a 4-5 piece of string and tie other end to a dowel, drumstick or some kind of round stick... hold arms out at face level straight. then by turning the stick pull weight up and let back to ground...also the picking up the ladder and placing on rack or pulling the fly up on an ext. ladder may be hard. If you have been doing hose pulls and stufff your arms will be fatigued. a trick to handeling the ladders and keeping your grip :
when you grab the rope in your hand grasp it using your pinky finger first curling your fingers aound the rope its a more secure grip. also you will be alowed to wear gloves. Bring your own and make sure they fit snug!@ My hands are small had to go to home depot to get leather gloves to fit right...then Nd heres the biggie!
GAO TO A SPORTING GOODS STORE AND BUY A LITTLE BAG WITH A RAG IN IT CALLED PINE TAR! I THINK ITS IN THE BASEBALL SECTION, TAKE THAT THING AND WEARING YOUR GLOVES GRIP IT AND RUB ALL OVER PALMS OF GLOVES AND IN BETWEEN FINGERS ...BELIEVE ME THIS WILL IMPROVE YOUR PERFORMANCE PROBABLY 5 TIMES!
GOOD LUCK]
hope this was of some help to you!

Thank you GenaFire. I think our test is little different than that. We have to wear the gloves, helmet, and vest issued to us at the beginning of the test. The first station in the test is climbing a stair mill for 3 minutes and 20 seconds with a 75 lb. vest on. You complete the remainder of the test with the 50 lb. vest. As far as rollerblading, I do have some and since the weather is turning up here, I will certainly try it.

Thanks again and stay in touch,
(Nice to hear from other females)
