We've been putting out wildfires every day since last Wednesday. 99% of them were arson  the rest were dumbasses setting "controlled" burns that suddenly weren't controlled. Thankfully it is raining tonight!

Well we here in washington state can always send you some rain, its starting to get in the way of some burns we have coming up.
And I need to train some guys who are a bit green behind the ears, and having a control burn is always a good way to give them some good training.
Stay safe, and enjoy the rain while you can

Ah yes lovely Washington state. I spent alot time out there in the Army. Summer was nice though. We haven't had time to do any controlled burns of our own, all of our new guys are getting their training on the real thing. At least it's raining now.:D

The State forests in northern NJ and Southeast NY State are experiencing moderate to extreme drought conditions. Drought emergencies are in effect throughout all of NJ, as the rainfall deficits over the 365 day period, from April 2001 through April 2002 are 16 to 17 inches below normal. Rainfall this month, at my location, has been .24" and temps this week will approach 65 to 70 degrees. RH values and wind will be the determining factors in what fire behavior to expect. The scene is set for very high to extreme conditions to develop as we approach mid-Spring and Summer. Reservoirs are at or approaching record lows.....some being 30-35% of capacity. They should be 85-95% full at this time of year.
Since October 1, 2001, the NJ Forest Fire Service has responded to 1,247 wildfires, which have burned over 1,439 acres of New Jersey's forests and open space. That period is usually extremely inactive, due to snow cover/winter precip.
Stay tuned...it could get interesting in the urban/wildland interface areas. Rain, rain and more rain.....would help!

It has rained the last two days here.
It's a good thing, too. Brush/grass fires have been keeping us quite busy.
