66 and 1835:
Do we have an updated version of the membership roster that could be posted here?
I have been getting messages from some who applied some time ago and claims that they had not heard anything back. If we cut and paste the current roster, perhaps prospective members could look at the list before applying or re-applying.
Just a thought. Boy, those Sunday nite meetings are getting crowded, aren't they?

Yeah Chief but I like it! More members, more brains to pick, or more minds to mold, depending on how you look at it.

I would hope that I get to do a little of both.

Chief...

We had a list at one point..but we have grown again.

I will post what I have, with a request to those that are already accepted to point out if they have been missed. For all of those that have applied and not heard anything.....speak up email (hfdfao@hotmail.com) and let me know. We will "expedite" the paperwork.

Dave

OK I finally got my butt in gear!! I restarted the God Forbid thread under General Discussion (on that other site :D) so if everyone could please try to take a look at it (hopefully before Sunday's meeting) and let me know what you think so far. Thanks!!!!!

According to the website we have 91 registered members. According to my list, updated with changes based on Dave's list of Jan. 16, we have 105 members.

OK here's the list. Whew *wipes brow* that only took 4 or 5 hours

Now, a word of caution ..... I don't know that everyone on this list has had their applications approved. I just took the names from the lists Dave provided and from the registered memberlist from the "other" forums. So if you haven't heard from the powers that be, but still see your name here, don't go getting all excited LOL - this list is a "work in progress" :D

Upon seeing recognition of being a member of such a fine organization, I humbly volunteer to take up the Ministry of the Wildlands and Urban Interface.

To the Esteemed IACOJ Leadership,

It is too late for another "old guy" to apply for membership?

I offer you the battering ram and/or claw tool as my weapons.

I miss canvas turn-out coats, pull-up 3/4 boots and leather New Yorkers.

As proof of my age, I can tell you Bed-Stuy/Brooklyn stories from the late sixties/early seventies.

i'd like to be signed up for the IACOJ as well. I am sure I am at the young end of things, at the ripe young age of 23, but have committed myself to the fire service, pursuing degrees in fire science, and spending numerous hours at fire stations since the young age of 14, as an explorer, and even though I don't have a leather helmet, and haven't been in that many fires, I still love every minute of it, and enjoying teaching the new explorers the way of the fire service.

In Honor of The Five Crusty Sr. Captains who took the time to teach me when I was only twenty-something, and did it well enough that I've lived on into thirty-something, I respectfully wish to join this Honorable organization.
I consider myself indebted and in service to COJ's everywhere, who fought the MUTTS, told the truth, shared their knowlwdge and generally made sure i didn't die from my own stupidity...
I wish only to serve and listen and learn from their simple, straightforward wisdom.

I think it is time for a new division in the IACOJ. I propose the International Association of Crusty Young Jakes. Call it an "Explorer" program if you will. Those of us with all of the values of our elders yet we still have all of our hair. (They have made gread strides in facemask harness construction), no more removing clumps of hair when you take the thing off. We give great respect for those who grew our profession from working 72 hrs a week for $125. to today where you wont get rich but you can raise a family. To that I give a tip of the hat (the hat is an N5A of course)

1968 to 1975 FDNY - Auxiliary Firefighter assigned to Ladder 132 (In the Eye of the Storm)
1973 to 1986 - Hi-Rise Fire Safety Director - NYC
1995 to Present - Volunteer Firefighter, Lieutenant and Captain Kingwood and Porter Volunteer Fire Departments.

I would like to think there's crust on these old bones and a love of leather and tradition in this old heart.

hfd66truck

For the record:

The IACYJ will be considered a rival organization!

We already have made provisions for an explorer division (as Adze said).

That is all I have to say about that!

Dave

Adze39
04-04-2003, 11:55 AM
Not only will it be considered a rival organization, but the BMI will make it its goal to crush it! Any of our explorers who join it will be recommended by the BMI for termination from the IACOJ and everyone on the IACYJ will be shunned!

And that's just for starters!

raven911
04-04-2003, 12:14 PM
Sounds like a pretty good puppy-whooping stick to me! Crust has to be earned. Only a few are truly crusty, the rest of us can only strive to be so until our time comes.

Rippin73 has not posted since 3/21/03; the same day that IACOJ board members asked him not to use "Founding Member IACYJ" in his signature. It was clearly articulated that: 1)The IACOJ has a division for young firefighters and explorers 2)"IACYJ" would confuse potential applicants and, most importantly, 3) IACOJ is copyrighted and therefore, protected by law. I was given the opinion of the attorney that similarities to both "IACOJ" and "International Association of Crusty Old Jakes" would be challenged.
We, at IACOJ are not bullies, but we have worked hard to build a following and in the spirit upon which we were founded by our esteemed president, we will fight to protect it with all of our resources.

While I have only recently signed up with Firehouse,
I have noticed the IACOJ tags under peoples posts and wondered what the heck it stood for. Now that I know what it stands for I definitely would like for my application to be considered for membership. While I only have 4 yrs in the fire service, I look foward to Many Years (Good Lord Willin) in the Fire Service and
am proud to have the Title of Firefighter and hope to live up the the standard always.

IACOJ Fireboat 1 just had her annual deck inspections. During pump testing we only got 35,000gpm, must be some seaweed on the strainer. Managed to squeeze 21 knots on the timed speed run, one hell of a wake behind us. The new EMS "Sick Bay" is now fully stocked and in service. We've also recently upgraded the galley, Cheffie, we're hoping you'll come down and christen it for us! Now if only I can find that slacker who's captain for 2nd watch, have not seen him in a while...

Back, and I'd like to think with a little more crust. Well, maybe not crust by COJ standards but I'm working on it...I hope the two, close to three more years under my belt has done me some good.

I was reading some old e-mails the other day that I had saved and found where Capt. Gonzo had assigned all the "IACOJ Explorers" to their "COJ"....I was assigned to Steamer...are you still around Steamer??

I would join you all more often on the IACOJ website but I have about given up, it'll let me log in but not post.

If you don't tell anyone that there is a problem, how on earth would it get fixed? You could have tried clicking on the "Contact Us" link on the menu. Or tried sending an email or PM to one of the BOD. Or sent a PM from right here on FH. There are so many ways to contact an IACOJ member, we are quite visible after all ;) Dave is a genius at figuring these things out but first he has to know about it :D

Hey all, I recently applied to join at the IACOJ site. Was doing some searching on the organization and liked what I read when I came across this original, founding thread. Noticed not much on the IACOJ has been posted in 2008.

My way of informing everyone I like what you've all established and I only hope I will be welcomed to begin my rather crusty future with you all at IACOJ, what sounds like a great source of not only information and knowledge.. but a community of people in the fire service looking for continued and evolving excellence in the fire service.. and of course to keep the honor of those crusties before us.

Holy crap. What a revival.

For those non members, if I may have a moment of your time...

Apply. For your own good, and ours. There is little to no drama, and plenty of learning. Knowlage is shared. Friendships are forged.

Well worth it.

If you want to apply, goto http://iacoj.com and act as if you're going to register a username for the forum. It will be the application to apply for IACOJ membership.

I believe that is the correct path? Could a member of the IACOJ confirm? Also, could someone also confirm my application was received without error? I was having problems with it before it told me it was sent.

Any other steps required to join, please inform. If you haven't noticed, I am very excited and anxious to be part of the Crust. Thanks in advance to all who respond and help! Much appreciated. :)

I.A.C.O.J. board of directors, and other high power people in the organization,

I hereby ask to be accepted to be a PROBIE EXPLORER into your ranks. My probationary period is set to expire at the end of this month, so I'll still be your new guy to pick on. I will gladly cook you guys up anything you want (well, almost everything, wouldn't want superchef to get mad at me now) and will gladly do the dishes and pick up hose after you guys. I will also be the best assistant chef to superchef I can be! I may not be old or crusty, but I am here to learn from the best.
