While putting in a blower line this afternoon, from about 15 feet in the black, I heard a whole crap load of explosions then the distinctive sound of bullets whizzing by. Come to find out somebody left a bunch of bullets and shot gun shells. Also this area was next to the river and when the river receded tons of trash was left behind. I can't count how many aerosol cans blew up out there. Just a little reminder to be aware of your surrondings!

What you heard was the caseing's going by as a shell has to be in chamber for for the bullet to move. Now the cans are very dangerous full or empty.Just ask anyone who has worked a hardware store fire, esp.in the spring with tobacco bed gas stored in a wrong place.
You are so right about knowing your surroundings at all times.Meth has become a major problem for us.The dopies have moved the woods or shacks in the woods to make the stuff .The old dumps hold a lot of bad stuff too.

Yep, I've been hit in the chest by a shell casing during mop up on a structure fire. It's a pretty intense moment.

I have experienced the "exploding shell" also.. Increases the pucker factor for sure..
Now...showing my ignorance in terminology here...but what the heck is a "BLOWER LINE" Even after 30 years that is a new one on me. So...here you go young man... Now is your chance to teach the old dog a new trick!

To make a blower line, you need a leaf blower. As a line construction tool, they work very well in hardwood leaf litter fuel types. They can often take the place of 3-4 crew with rakes, or 6-8 shovels and pulaskis.
I expect they would work in any fuel type where surface fires predominate, and the major surface fuels are litter and light downed brush.
I've seen them used from Missouri to Maine.

A good backpack leaf blower is an indispensable tool out here. A good arrangement is a three man crew--one with a leaf blower, one with a backpack water can, and one with a heavy rake. You can cut a control line pretty quick with a little practice. Works wonders in the woods and if you’ve got a crew that knows what they are doing, you can use them effectively in light grass, so long as the wind isn’t blowing much.

Hey cbp3 !
To make a blower line, you need a leaf blower.
That's why he's one of my bosses....he knows all that newfangled stuff!:p
We're trying Portable Explosive Anti-Personnel Mine Breaching Systems....they clear a line and set the backfire at the same time!LOL
