As others will be travling this year to other areas, and having spent time on a few hotshot crews the following will be good tools to make.

Super P (pulaski)

Take a normal pulaski weld the grubing end off and then weld it to another pulaski, then sharpen like you would a normal pulaski, this makes more bang for your buck, and adds more weight to it so you can scrape more dirt.

Adj rianno.

Take a shovel and cut the tip off so you almost have a square, now take a combie tool and weld off the shovel part but leave a good square so you can weld on the shovel part. After you have it on sharpen all 3 sides, this is good for grubbing dirt, or even as a hot shovel, and mop up it works good as well..

AZ rake.

Take a Mcleod tool, now if it has 6 rake teeth weld off the 2 teeth on each side, but leave the hoe end alone, so after you are finished you should have a triangle. Sharpen the hoe end and kind of sharpen the edges. This works good in Az and used it in other parts of the country.

Stam hammer.

Weld off the ax part on a pulaski, so your just left with the grubbing end, now make a circle weld on something to weld on to the pulaski. This works good for driving in wedges, and when the sawers are not on a saw they can still be working punching line.

Next post I will show you all how to make a Fusee launcher with a c02 tank, we have got a good 400 feet of hang time, also works good for launching the flaming tennis ball. Good for setting back fires down a ridge.

Stay Safe,

Any chance of posting photos of the completed projects? That would be helpful in efforts to duplicate your modifications.

Thanks! :p :p

Mega P - cut grubbing end into a elongated diamond http://rxfire.homestead.com/files/mega_p.jpg then attach triangle cut from farm disc that has a corrsponding notch cut out. Can leave disc piece rounded or squared. End can be 12-18 inches wide depending on personal preferences. But watch your knees when carrying

Rhino (rhinhardt) - cut off shovel blade tip, about 2" in from tip, and cut off of handle at foot "peg". Reattach to McLeod handle that has had the rake/hoe removed. This gives a longer handle with more leverage, not to mention the taking off some back sprain by allowing you to stand more upright.
variation on above - Weld shovel handle onto adze hoe in place of the hoe blade.... Not recommended for use by anyone taller than 5'2":D unless working on near vertical slopes. What a back breaker!

For any tool, replace wood handles with Nupla Fiberglass handles (http://www.nuplacorp.com/product_list/pages_2-13.html).

Can't share all of my secrets... what if I want to go into business someday charging the gov some outragous fortune for a handtool? :D :D

I used to love fusee launchers, but the last couple of years
the fusee quality had dimished to the point if you launch then
or even throw them for that matter they go out.

The pre 99 lots of fusess worked great. So we have resorted to
flare guns.

Also, our fusee launchers are set up to operated off the truck
air system. We are using them in conjunction with our 6x6 military
conversions.
