My brother has accepted a job with an engine crew in Lewistown, Montana. I was just looking for anyone who has worked in that area, someone that could give him a little better idea of what to accept. He will be turning 18 a few days before he leaves, he has completed the s 130/190 class as well as the class above it (can't remember the title right now) and he has plenty of fire experience.
Thanks

Plenty? I mean no disrespect, but please explain how that is possible? He is only 17 years old.

He has been a member of our fire department since he was 14. They were allowed to help on small fires and mop up on wildland fires till they are 17. He has attended the Colorado Wildfire Academy for two years and has been to several other seminars and training. They also looked at the experience that he has with large machinery.

Forgive me, I had NO idea CWA accepted students under 18. Good for him!
I'm assuming it's a BLM position in Lewistown?
Why not send an E-mail or note to the BLM field office and make your inquiry directly with them.
Lewistown Field Office
Airport Road
P.O. Box 1160
Lewistown, MT 59457-1160
EMAIL MT_Lewistown_FO@blm.gov
Or he can call the Field Office: 406-538-7461
There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of active wildfire members among these forums. And I can't say I've been to the Lewistown area.
Good Luck to both of you! ;)

He already got hired on an engine crew, he will turn 18 a few days after he arrives in Montana. The only thing he has to do when he gets there is take the pack test, he will have no problem with that he runs almost three miles a day with a pack.

Last I heard you could not attend CWA until you were 18, but hey if he did..that is great.
One thing I can say is make sure that he gets lots of PT, running is the best cause he is going to be getting all of the grunt work due to him being the new guy.
More he run's the better he will be, it really could safe his life someday.
