(Durango-AP) -- Officials in La Plata County say a new wildfire
has been spotted.
Firefighters were sent to the area last night. The fire is
burning about 14-and-a-half miles southwest of Durango, near the
New Mexico-Colorado border.
Officials estimate the size of the fire at about 180 acres and
they say four slurry bombers dropped fire retardant to paint a
perimeter around the fire.
The fire still is not considered contained.
Officials say the fire appears to be on private land as well as
Southern Ute tribal land in the region.
Several homes were evacuated briefly and some area roads were
closed for a time by the fire.
