Bitterroot Forest to dedicate lookout named for fallen firefighter
(Hamilton-AP) -- The Bitterroot National Forest will dedicate a
new lookout next month, to honor a firefighter killed last
September.
Dave Rendek died fighting a small wildfire near Lost Trail Pass,
south of Sula. He was struck by a falling tree.
On June 8th, forest officials will dedicate the Sula Peak
Lookout to honor Rendek.
The old lookout was destroyed during the fires of 2000. The new
structure will be staffed and open to the public beginning in July.
