Forest Service dedicates new Sula Peak Lookout, honors firefighter
(Darby-AP) -- Forest Service officials dedicated a new Sula Peak
Lookout south of Darby this weekend.
The old lookout was burned during the 2000 forest fires.
Yesterday's dedication celebrated the opening of the new
lookout, and also honored fallen firefighter David Rendek. The
24-year-old Rendek died last year when a snag fell on him while he
was fighting a small fire near Lost Trail Pass.
Forest officials say they put Dave's plaque at the Sula Peak
Lookout because Dave Rendek spent a lot of time there.
