View Full Version : Can you help me?
I have a good friend who is retiring in a month from San Francisco and I don't know what to give her as a retirement gift. I want it to be something that she can really remember her time on the deparment with, but I can't afford to spend $300.00 on something either. She has really helped me along the way to becoming a firefighter and I want to show her how much I appreciate all that she has done for me. She is the first firefighter that I know that is going into retirement, so this is new to me. Any advice or suggestions that anybody can give me is greatly appreciated.

A small plaque with an inscription on it along lines of Thanks for all the support you have given me and other women of the fire servic. We will miss you, but not forget you...
Depending on the place you go anywhere from $50 to $100. May be cheaper depends on how much the company charges for engraving...
Hope this helps..

A plaque would be cool... maybe not so much with the part about Women in the FD rocking or like that, might just separate her more during her final days. I'm a big fan of personal things... like a photo album filled with pictures of fires the two of you have been to, or of her working in the firehouse, stuff she can look back on and remember. You also can't beat those CODE 3 collectibles...

Handmade is always great with me!! It is more personal and appreciated more. You might try a "Homemade" recipe book of all the meals that have been made in the station. She might not cook from it, but it will bring back many memories!;)

I stole the Chief’s helmet a few weeks before he retired, right of the hook. Then everybody we could find that he worked with past and present signed it, just like a High School Year book.
The local Art Supply had these Gold paint pens that looked Great on that beat up old leather. We presented it to him at his retirement dinner. Damn near brought the old Jake to tears.

I agree, homemade is the way I would go. Maybe a collage of pictures from her family and or friends of her from start to end with an inscription on it. I know some of the firefighters in my department have been taking pictures of scenes, around the station and at off duty events for awhile. Maybe check with some of her past co-workers.
Good Luck.
