Corrections officer dies while helping fight forest fire
(Fort Ann-AP) -- A corrections officer died today while helping
fight a fire that's been burning on Sleeping Beauty Mountain since
last week.
The forest fire is in the Fort Ann area, about 50 miles north of
Albany in the southeastern Adirondack Park. Officials say
51-year-old John Hart was supervising ten inmates from the Mount
Mcgregor state prison who were working to fight the fire.
A fellow officer found Hart's body on a forest trail leading to
the blaze. Officials say he was going up the mountain to check on
his crew.
No foul play is suspected. An autopsy is planned to determine
the cause of death.
