Davie, FL · The Fire Department will be gaining two new high-level supervisors.

Town Council members recently approved two new division chief positions for the Fire Department. One chief will be responsible for all administrative activities within the department while the other will be in charge of all emergency activities, according to Fire Chief Don DePetrillo.

"We are making some changes in the way our department is being managed," said DePetrillo. "Our operation has grown and we are dealing with more complex issues. We are adding new stations and we are training to deal with the threat of terrorism."

The two new chief positions will pay between $59,000 and $79,000 annually. The two jobs were placed in the town budget in October. The department will begin looking for candidates in April, according to DePetrillo.

Also, the Town Council members agreed to create a new fire inspector position, according to DePetrillo. The new fire inspector will supervise six other fire inspectors and earn between $51,000 and $68,000 annually.

A fire plans examiner job has also been created, which will pay between $41,000 and $58,000 a year. Essentially this job is an upgraded firefighter position, but will allow for an individual to take the time to study firefighting plans, according to DePetrillo.
