union question?

Have any of you guys gone from an association to a union local? I'm trying to push for this at our department and the response is pretty good but I wanted to know if anyone has had any problems with this?
I've already talked to are area vice pres. about having a meeting with us to discuss the union. Is there anything else I need to or could be doing? thanks
