I am outraged that congress has given more money to foreign countries than our own homeland defense department and local "first responders".
In the war budget alone, Turkey gets 1 billion and Israel 7.8 billion. Homeland defense got less than half that amount! Is it not time for people on the front lines of this country to start getting funding BEFORE we give another dime to a foreign country? To me, I find it unconscionable to have local fire fighters, EMS people and police departments scraping for less and less money each year while we are at the same we sending more and more to foreign countries? I really think it is time to get organized so that we fight this wrong. Comments?

So is it safe to say that you would also be opposed to FD's that get grant money for exercise equipment before FD's that request needed turnout gear, SCBA's, hose, trucks, etc?

We have our own priorities screwed up long before it gets to the level of Congress. :(

Taking the long view...If Bill Clinton had had his mind in locations other than his pants, he might have been wise to spend some money abroad to work against these terrorist regimes.

A stable Iraq and Afghanistan could mean a more stable Syria, Iran, Pakistan...and with them, a tougher time for Osama to do what he does.

Some money spent on these things might--MIGHT--have helped prevent 9/11. I don't mean slash the FIRE program in favor of spending abroad, but improving foreign nations is an investment that can reap rewards.
