Anyone notice a theme lately?

My brother and fellow crusty Artie, aka E229LT has been posting a lot of "what ifs"... forcible entry tools breaking, trucks breaking, standpipe connections breaking....

Has Murphy made an appearance in the Big Apple lately?

I think Mr. Murphy has visited Danvers. Our Eng.2(1 of 2 quints) is out of service cause it was not shifting and had trouble stopping,so our reserve truck- Eng.4(pump) was up there and broke a axle on a run! So right now we are borrowing North Readings Quint.
Our Eng. 3 has a habbit of randomly breaking down to luckily it hasnt yet. Funny thing though that at Eng. 2's station is Essex County Fire Chiefs assc. ladder 134 is in the next bay un-used and headed for a museum in Austraila-go figure. :rolleyes:

I just hope the big one dont come.:( :eek:

It can be hard enough doing this job on a good day, let alone a day where your tools are busting apart on ya. I have always believed that you can NEVER have enough tools in the "tool box" and that you should ALWAYS know more than one way to do something.

That Murphay guy will show himself when you least expect it!

Whatever the reasons for the “what if….” threads I sure hope you crusties keep’m coming.
I don’t have much to offer but I sure get a lot out of reading them, that’s the reason I read these forums.

I have so far only broken one tool, a old axe. But when it broke it landed on my foot, right BEHIND the steel toe. OUCH. Also, we have been lucky, Mr. Murphey has not visited Winston-Salem.

Artie is trying to get folks to "think outside the box" and be prepared to act outside the norm when the proverbial poop hits the fan. We all know and love "Murphy".....and he seems to always show up!

A week ago Friday our engine in HQ station (we'll call it E61) had the alternator go out in it. So the Brothers took the Reserve engine (E66) and ran it for a few days while 61 was being fixed. Then 66 broke down and we had to pull the last reserve engine (65) to run in 61's place. Problem is, while 61 & 66 are down and 65 is being used, you can't run the head lights & emergency lights at the same time with 65.
Good for us, Thursday our front line engine 61 was fixed and back in service.

Stuff breaks, sh*t happens, you must overcome!

My goal is three part:

1. Get some feedback from the others out there for forming drills for my MANY young members.
2. Throw a challenge around for a brainstorming session.
3. Bring some fire related threads and decorum back to the forum.

I’d be happy to get 2 out of 3 but hope #3 gets done first.

These "back to basics" threads seem to be very informative to myself and many others. Thank you for making the threads and thanks everyone for posting in them. Actually, just last week, we had a motor vehicle extrication drill where we took apart the whole car using NO power tools. It seemed like great practice for the day our hurst tool doesnt work or the generator breaks. Anyways, thanks again for bring some meangingful discussion to the forums and it is really helpful to all of us.
