Right angle flashlights

Hey I'm looking to buy a personal light to use in a busy department. I have narrowed my choices down to the streamlight survivor or pelican big ed. If you have had any experience witheither of these products please let me know. Any other suggestions?

I cant vouch for "Big Ed" have never used them. My department and I used the Survivor and they held up really well even after I :rolleyes: dropped it off a ladder a few times.

I'm very happy with my Survivor. It's nice and bright and the smoke cutter Xenon beam works better than I thought it would.
They are built pretty tough too in my opinion.....

Ditto on the survivor... good light, and tough too. I've never used a "big Ed".

Never used the Big Ed -- But I do have 2 Survivors - When one dies - there is always a fresh one on the charger.

Like it alot. Wish I had the newer version with the interchangable batteries.

Holds up really well.

I've also got a Survivor with the spare battery, great light.
A few guys have Big Ed's and they don't have any complaints but the survivor is a bit smaller and just as bright.

If I had to replace my light I'd get another streamlight

Does anyone have any experience with the Koehler Responder right angle light?

My FD has been issuing Koehler Responders as replacement flashlights. I think it is brighter than the Survivor and holds a charge better.

I still have my Survivor light...but I have to get the new battery pack for it.

I like Survivors, they are pretty bright and they are easy to turn on and off with a gloved hand.

I have Koehler responder and have no complaints. It is brighter than a survivor, has a wider beam of light, and when at a prolonged incident can have a few C size batteries thrown in it and keep on going, whereas a lot of other lights don;t have that capability.

OK, if the Survivor is a smoothbore, and the "Big Ed" is a combo........ :D :D Sorry, I couldn't pass that one up. We have some Survivors and they are well liked by everyone, no complaints. Stay Safe....

There are alot of guys around the station that have survivors and now some people are saving money and just buying the light without the charger. There are plenty of chargers around and no one has a problem sharing.

We got a demo of the "Big Ed" here and I'm not very fond of it. WHile it has taken abuse very well (interior, fall from roof, etc), it has a very short life span. We followed the manufactured directions explicitly and it still goes dim after a very short time (15 minutes max). We may have gotten a dud, who knows.

I have the big and and love it. I compared the candle power on both lights (survivor and big ed) and the survivor has more candle power and a bigger lens. we have the survivors mounted on the engines and they work well but for my money i like the ed. It holds a charge for days.

We pretty much never have to worry about charging issues. Each aparatus that has survivors has a mounted charger for each of them. On my motor, the engineer, officer as well as both FF's all have one. Both FF's also have box lights mounted in chargers as well.

My FD issued me a recharable Survivor and I
love it. It is tough and well built. I use it
offen and it still doesnt need to be charged
much.

It also fits well in my coat...I love it.

4 C-cell 5hrs light@60,000 CP

big ed not sure 60,000 i think

Not to revive a dead thread, but I was using the search feature as I know we all like, and in reading all the many right angle flashlight posts, I've noticed that in the ones that use both the battery pack and the regular c cell batts, usually there are better numbers out of the c-cell. Does that also apply to rechargeable c-cells that you throw in a generic home charger? Or is it the fact that the battery pack and the rechargeables are Ni-Cad and the normal ones are alkaline. Thanks for any help.

I love my Orange Streamlight Survivor. It always worksfor me and the battery last a long time. Woundlnt give it up for anything.
