Drop program

I am currently living in Houston and looking for a job in Texas. I understand that Houston has one of the best retirement packages around. Is this the case, and what is the DROP Program? Is the DROP in all of Texas?

If the DROP program there is the same as it is here, this is the way it works. When you become eligible for retirement, you can chose to basically retire, yet keep working. The DROP program here is awaiting an IRS ruling. This plan will allow members to collect 75% of their retirement pay and have it put in an annuity while also collecting their normal salary. Here, if you chose the DROP plan you can't be promoted and you must permanently retire after 5 years of being in the DROP plan.
