LOS ANGELES, CA:
GREATER ALARM STRUCTURE FIRE:

On Monday, January 05, 2004, at 1050 hours (10:50 a.m.), twelve companies of Los Angeles Firefighters, one Battalion EMS Supervisor, two Battalion Command Teams, and three LAFD Rescue Ambulances, under the direction of Battalion Commander Mark J. Saxelby, responded to a Greater Alarm Structure Fire at 13690 West Vaughn Street in the Pacoima area. 100 Firefighters Working in Goonoo State Forest

Over 100 firefighters from NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) and State Forests will today work on containment lines around a fire burning in the Goonoo State Forest, north east of Dubbo.

The fire began yesterday morning (January 5) and has burnt about 1200ha.The threat to property is minimal at the moment.

Firefighters are aiming to contain the fire within the State Forest. However, concerning weather conditions are expected today with high temperatures and strong winds predicted.

Extra resources, including 20 appliances in three strike forces from RFS Region West and one strike team from Wellington will assist local crews today.

The crews will conduct backburns and heavy machinery will grade containment lines today. They will be supported by two fixed wing aircraft conducting water bombing activities.

A Total Fire Ban has been declared for the North West Slopes, North West Plains, Central West Slopes, Central West Plains and Upper Western weather districts.

Strong winds push fire in Goonoo State Forest - 4.30pm update

Firefighters continue to work tirelessly to contain a fire located 30km northeast of Dubbo in the Goonoo State Forest.

The fire has spread across an area totalling about 1500ha. The aim is to contain the fire to southeast corner of Goonoo State Forest.

Difficult weather conditions this afternoon has caused the fire to jump the Goan Creek Rd and new containment lines are now being established in the south. The new containment lines are the Golden Highway and Talbragar River.

Heavy plant is working to contain the southern edge of forest with constructed dozer lines to contain fire within the southern boundary of the forest.

Under windy conditions the fire was expected to break containment lines in the south this afternoon. It did so at about 1pm and continued over the Goan creek Rd later this afternoon.

Currently there are 17 tankers with 150 firefighters from RFS and State Forests fighting the blaze with another 20 tankers in transit and an extra 200 people.

There are currently two fixed wing aircraft conducting water bombing and another three are on the way to the area.

Weather conditions for tomorrow are predicted to be difficult with the bureau predicting hot northwesterly winds with temperatures up into the mid-40s.

Fire crews have been liaising with local landholders and fire brigades near Ballimore to ensure residents are aware of the fire. The fire is about 10km north of Ballimore.

Properties are not threatened at the present time.

CFN, Columbia Fire Net, is a product of the Columbia, Missouri Fire Department. It was established to provide information via pagers to Chief Officers, Rescue and HazMat Team members and eventually to any interested CFD member. The pagers are provided at no cost to CFD members. With 4 pin options available, members could select any 2 additional types of pages. Obviously their individual pin, then a CFD all call pin and their choice of 2 more. About 2 dozen elected to receive CFN as one of their options. As of this writing there are 4 who are authorized to send out national pages. National paging will remain a very closely held authority. Since we are new, we have a rather steep learning curve. As Fire Chief, Wm. Markgraf is the nominal head of the system. The other 3 "national dispatchers" are employees of the CFD.
