They basically check to see that you spent the money on what you said you spent it on. They will probably dig deeper to make sure that what you put on your application is what the case is, as far as populations, budget, etc, etc. All of that is open for audit. Since you had to pull paperwork to get those numbers, you've probably got all of that lying around already, or if not, then it's easy to get. They're not going to pull any punches.

You may be required to turn your head and cough also!

We had our visit this morning. Everything went fine. This was not a financial audit. That sounds like the one you don't want to get. Basically they just wanted to see that we had bought the equipment. Which we had. We have negotiated the best price we could get on everything so we have been able to purchase additional equipment.

My visit was cordial and professional. Reviewed my paper work to see that I had indeed purchased what I had applied for. Made a few notes, and expressed appreciation for taking advantage of the program and using it as intended.

Does anyone have any more information about these visits? Like, a timeline(how long after the award?) Have there been any negative visits? We are still waiting for word for our third try at the FEMA grant.
Thanx for the input

At least in my area, they are only auditing departments that received a grant of $100,000 or more. They will also try to visit some surrounding departments as well when they do that.

If anyone goes through a financial audit, let us know what is entailed in that.
