Hello all.

My name is Andy Britner. I am a 28 year old firefighter in Manchester, England. I am seeking advice on becoming a Firefighter in New England,US. I have 4 years experience and I am fully qualified. I have been doing research, and I'm waiting for replies from various agencies,ie. NH Fire Academy. I have to say that so far I have been impressed with how helpful everyone that I have spoken to has been. One thing that we don't do in the UK is EMT. What is the basic level required which will help me in? And how long would it take? If there are any other courses which you think would help me, please let me know. Any bits of information would be appreciated. Cheers.

Most places require an EMT license. This will take you anywhere from 4 to 6 months (depending where you go).

You'll also need a green card at the very least (only a few places require citizenship- you may find that people will tell you otherwise, but besides FDNY and some places in Colorado, permenant residency is all you need).

Your experience may help you during the oral board portion, but you will have start all over again. Don't expect any of your training to transfer.

Send me a PM, I may have some info for you.

Best wishes!
