If anybody knows, are all Mass. firefighters employees of the state?
And does the state run the firehouses?

hehe, WestTac is a man of few words!
just to expand a little. Mass is a civil service state. You take a civil service exam and put down you're three top choices of where you want to work. Keep in mind that most departments that use the civil service exam also require residency and give big time preference to them as well as minorities, women and vets.
There are a few towns that are paid departments that don't use the civil service test. Duxbury is one that comes to mind.

I am from Mass but moved out of state to get the job cause I'm white, non vet, male and lived in a small town.

thanks Grov for the help, i was looking to take a few practice exams and was seeing what some neighboring states are doing.
i figured residency would be a downfall but i think im alright to take the exam while not being a resident.
thanks spy...
