Has anyone gotten and looked at the new I think its a BWC Firefighter Adminstrative code book?? (Correct me if I am wrong)
I was told by one of our officer that they change the rules. If a firefighter is wearing Structural gear and is injured or dies while fighting anything that is remotely like a wildland call. They will not be covered by the BWC. For a dept like mine who only have 3-4 calls like that a year that is a large impact. Due to we do not have any wildland gear...we always use our bunkers. We are looking at contacting the State for clarification. But is sounds like to me we have to buy some wildland gear.:(
Any one else have comments or similar circumstances?

Josh,
I'll see if I can scan that or something so that you can see it. The books are little brownish tan. We got them this weekend from the State at the Grant Funding thing they had down at Reynoldsburg. Not alot of people showed up according to our guys. Then they wonder why they never get a grant if you don't take advantage or the classes from the state.

This is the first I've heard about this - but then I work at an outlying station, and communications are sometimes not at 100%.
Please keep us posted if you find out anything!

Ok I found where this is listed....unfortunately you can't get it on line. Go to this link, scroll down to Manuals and Check VSSR Rules Firefighters. This is somethig that everyone should look into.

All of the new Firefighter Safety Rules are available here: http://www.oapff.com/safetyrules.htm
We're also having a discussion on the health and fitness rules in this thread: Fitness stuff (http://cms.firehouse.com/forums2/showthread.php?s=&threadid=56498)

WTFD,
These revolve around Firefighters not being eligible for Workmans Comp if they wear structural gear to a wildfire.

Gotcha Jeff, I was just pointing out that the new Wildland PPE rules (and all the rest of the new rules) are available online at the OAPFF website. ;)

I didn't really pay any attention to that part. I'll have to go back and look now....

I just looked through both sections on protective gear (one for structural and one for wildland) and I didn't see anything in there about not being able to wear structural gear for wildland fires....

OK, this stuff is part of the Ohio Administrative Code. What's the difference between the OAC the Ohio Revised Code, and is the OAC law????

OAC deals more with how the State is run. Their are no persay penalties but is sets down the rules of the land. But to me the no BWC coverage is a big issue. I am trying to get my scanner to work so I can post this section. Also you can lok and see thatthey have added some new appartus stuff.....looking like they are trying to totally no allow use to use open cab either..haven't finished reading it all yet though.

WTFD,
I am glad that you posted that.....I bookmarked it at work for future reference.
77, ORC is more of criminal law. It's law with penalties.
