I've never applied to ff jobs before until now so please bare with me.

My question is, this particular department's exam process begins with a video scenario test and a mechanical aptitude test, what can I expect to see in such exams? I'm pretty sure they won't expect an applicant to have acad. training or ff exp., but are these general aptitude tests? How can I prepare for this?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the upcoming Long Beach Test.

The video testing will present several scenarios (they have about 40 they can pick from) and you will give you best guess answer of what you would do in the situation.

The next segment is to test your mechanical appitude. Arco's Mechanical Apptitude book will get you ready. You can find it here: http://www.firecareers.com/moreinfo.cfm?Product_ID=355

You can find more on testing secrets in the Career Article section from the Jobs drop down menu just above this posting.

You can go to this web site and see how video testing works: Check www.fireteamtest.com

This from a candidate who paid to test drive the video testing:

I went to the website (fireteamtest.com) and paid my $14.00 to take the practice test. The test takes 30 to 45 minutes so unplug your phone and listen to the instructions VERY carefully, my phone rang while I was watching the video and missed an important part. Anyways...DON'T answer the situational questions the way you think the "test writers" want you to, answer thinking about the big picture and what is right for everyone, being a kiss-up will not get you a 100% on this test. I know; I got kinda toady on one question and got slammed. So much for my 100%

Yup, it is the Long Beach exam. Thanks for the good info. BTW, I sent you an email (I hope you don't mind, it's kinda lengthy).
