Career FF ?? What's your side gig for $$

I want to see what others do for side gig to supplement their FF Salary. I am a paid FF and I have done mainly manual labor on the side. I am looking to go out on my own to make something work for the long term and would really appreciate anyone's advice or experiences as to what types of thing you guys are doing as your own deal to make extra $$ on off-duty days. I can't dance or sing and I ain't to pretty either so I will always have to work!!

If you enjoy the outdoors, landscaping is a decent job that can often be planned around a full time job. That's what I do, and it works pretty well. Snowplowing is a bit more variable for winters, as we can't "plan" snowstorms. Good luck!

I worked for a small land surveying company for a while, too. Interesting work if you like that sort of thing. Too much travel time for me though, so I went back to swinging a hammer.

I think I have the best side job possible...I teach firefighting!

Do any of you do anything like ........Property inspections........chimney cleaning........radon testing.........critter removal..........insurance claims............website devoloping..........any kind of work where I can get into it fairly cheap and make a good side job of it for the long term..........and most importantly ........to work my own set hours and prefer to be my own boss to some degree...........

I just don't know what the best side job would be and I need some input on how to get started from you that are doing it with success already. ..........

I am pretty good and "coming into" making side cash but I want to have something more steady for the longer haul..........I prefer to do things that get paid by the job or such that it is not on an hourly wage because I always seem to come out better by the job.


If you can help me I can offer a couple secrets to make seasonal $$ around the holidays for anybody who can use an extra chunk of cash for each holiday season. I mean a real nice chunk too!!!!

Anyway, I work at the local Grainger store here in Indy. I do warehouse work, putting away truck and whatnot. For $11 an hour and as little work as I do I can't beat it. And they are wicked accomadating when it comes to needing time off for pipe band functions and FDIC and such.

I've been a part-time medic for years, now I'm a part-time RN. The RN pays more than double and I can work just about anytime I want. Of course I don't get to sleep, but . . .

I teach firefighting at one of the local schools and I am incharge of EMS at a local Glass plant. Good money and I make my own hours since I am the boss.

lots of people at work also work as Flight medics and part time in other Emergency related fields but I have now taken a different road and adjusted my lifestyle to live with in my means and not have to have a part time job to make ends meet. I enjoy my days off much bettr now. Good Luck :D

In the area I work in we can pick up additional hours/shifts at other stations. We get hired as part time employees diffrent from the company we work for.

If you have the knack for it try H.V.A.C. installation - Always a job in demand
