Hey folks dont know if this is the right forum or not. My interview for Lt is coming up on Tuesday the second of March and I was wonderring if anybody had any possible questions I might review with. I purchased Captain Bob's program and that has helped immensely with my technique and delivery. The questions I have written down are as follows:

1. The fellow FF witnessed drinking and drugs etc.
2. First due to a residence with entrapment and you are involved in an accident...
3. Why do you want to be an off.
4. Superior assigns you a critical job task. you feel you are being treated unfairly....
5. Assigned to a new house as the officer, how do you establish yourself....
6. Cultural diversity
7. How do you feel about physical fitness and what do you do towards this effect (or something like that), if anybody has a suggestion on answering this one please let me know!!
8. Sexual harrasment
9. Major conflict how did I handle it
10. Dealing with public, i.e. upset person on EMS call, burn ordinance violation, etc
11. Chain of command, (how it works I think)

So if anybody has any more and doesn't mind posting them please let me know!

Thanks,

Mac

My short answer for #7 starts with: Lead by example. . .
If you are not prepared to do that, you need to think really hard about #3.

Other random thoughts:

In my experience, the buck usually starts and stops with the company officer. If you are not prepared to put your foot down when the play calls for it, you are wasting your time and the department's money. That includes when an assignment is unfair or just plain sucks. (and that neeever happens, does it :D)

Irate citizens need to be treated with respect, even when they are clearly in the wrong. If you are courteous and competent, you will leave a positive impression of your department. How many times is John Q. Public going to bump into the Chief, anyway?

Watch for the "exceptions to the Chain of Command" questions. Functional supervision (to use the IFSTA term) is O.K., end-runs are not except in rare cases. But what happens when an influential politician asks for something? Hopefully that doesn't happen in your jurisdiction.

Hope this gives you some ideas. Good luck with the interview!

Captain Bob,

I got your message below. I left a message on your voice mail. Dont know if you received it or not. If we didnt answer I apologize. We are in the process of building new lockers for our clothing and fire gear and we were sanding all of the lumber to prep it for staining. I will try to get into contact with you again tomorrow, 2/25/04. Is there a certain time that is better to try to call?

Thanks,

"Mac"
