Impatient! (background check)

How long does a background check for hiring generally take? Dept. X started mine over a month ago (criminal, credit, references). I know from talking to my references that every single person was called, my neighbors were visited, my old bosses were contacted, everyone they could possibly talk to, they have talked to. My criminal record is clean.... my references were kind and complementary.... so what's taking them so long?

Probably. They do it in their on time and way. It can be mading. Don't pray for patients. You will be tested.

Before you know it, it will be Christmas day, can't wait for your next call and you can't believe you made it.

As one candidate wrote: When I got the call all my worries were instantly gone.

Most cities and counties have their own speed when it comes to back ground checks. Most go through the state police and still do a lot on their own as to checking the references. If those folks don't send back the questionaires quick or there is a lot ot review, it takes time.

I know you feel like no ones wants you. Just hang in there.

Most departments are like the Marines, They are looking for a few good people. You may be one of them. I hope so.

When we get a new class of firefighters, we always asked them to look around at who is in the class and to be sure all of them are around for graduation in 18 weeks! If you are serious about being a firefighter stay seated and learn all that you can, otherwise, the hamburger joiny will hire you as a burger flipper.

We start new members out near $35,000 with a 2-1/2% promotional pay raise to Firefighter grade 1, after sucessfull completion of recruit training.
