Today I received my investigation package from the FDNY, and they want me to report to Metrotech Center in a few weeks...so things seem to be progressing. To me, ANY progress is good progress. This is just a little heads up to all the other candidates on list #2043...so be on the lookout for your package.
GOOD LUCK

Just wish I knew for sure; the hose drag was the only portion I felt I was too close on time for......

I got a 99 on the written (well 98.867 -- whatever -- 1 wrong) and no, I live in Jersey, so I missed the residency points.
Just our of curiosity -- when did you take your physical test? I went August 22, and I know they did it by order of how you did on the written. That might give me a frame of refrence to how long.
Congrats again...
ffbam24 -- I know what you mean about getting the physical test results as well. All this time you start doing mind games wondering if maybe you took to long on one thing or another... But, hang in there, and don't let the mind games go too long
Take it easy guys,

Well I did'nt do too hot on the written exam, I freakin got 4 wrong. So I have a 95.2 something. I however have residency and I took my physical on August 4th. But to be honest with you I have no idea how they chose who was going to take the physical and when. At first I thought it was aphabetically then I thought it was by score, but now I'm just confused....
martinez24
03-06-2004, 03:21 PM
I think it was given by how you scored on the writtem test -- which would make sense in your case, because with the 5 points, then you're at a 99.2 or something, which is your final written test score, so that would be ahead of when I took it (98.68 or whatever it was)
Pride373
03-06-2004, 04:10 PM
Actually, you get 5 points added to the average of your written and physical grades. Mathematically, it's like adding 10 (!!!) points to your written grade...

By the way, I am 98 written, hopefully 100 physical, city residency, and I still have no paperwork...

The "DANGER" of falsifying city records, I know someone who was caught using a false address to gain the 5 points, he was removed from the employment process by his investigator, he would have been in the december class.......

Here's my info:
Missed one on the written. Will have Veteran's credit (5pts). Nothing else. Took my physical agility July 21(ish). I live out in Seattle (for now) so I didn't want to mess with getting caught trying to claim residency.
I'll wait until the end of next week before starting to sweat if no package yet. But it is difficult wondering.....

The post that you can get 5 points residency credit for the written AND physical seems news to me -- can anyone else confirm that for me? I've read through whatever materials I have, and now I'm a bit confused...
Just wondering if this is going to make things a lot longer for me.
Thanks

Jim, don't quote me on this because I am not 100% sure but I believe that they take your written score and physical score and combine the two, then they average them out, then they add on the 5 points. EX 96+100=196 196/2=98 98+5=103 I think this is how it is done. But like you I am kinda confused.

- Congrats man... and good luck to you... Nothing on my end yet.
By the way, all of you guys who have gotten stuff -- how many of you have CFR-D certification yet? I didn't rush to get it, because the application/exam notice said that you didn't need it until the end of the probationary period -- but now it seems like everyone's saying you must have it before appointment. Just curious where you guys all fall into this question. I'm trying to find a course somewhere local.

firefiftyfive - I'm thinking the extra points are along the lines you described. Makes the most sense at least.
Jim - holding out for you there. Good luck.
Waiting on EMT reciprocity here, so should have that here relatively soon.

proby2be, you are all set man with that EMT-B cert. I am taking my CFR-D class right now, I am about half way done with it, I should be done by late May. And yes originally you just needed to have it by the time you graduated proby school and that they would give it to you or they would just dock your paycheck. But then they changed it to you must have it andif you don't they will pass you up.
Good luck all and keep posting

Nothing against all of you guys that are on the 2043 list BUT, I think it is really unfair and wrong that you guys don't have to have CFR-D before you get hired. I took the test in 99 and in doing so, I busted my butt working 2 jobs going to school for my college credits, and obtaining my CFR so that I can be hired. Now they decide that they don't need CFR after I and many others like me paid alot of money for that class. People on my list were skipped over because of the CFR rule and now that doesnt apply to you guys and I think it is totally WRONG!
FRO516BMX
03-09-2004, 05:03 PM
actually JAF, we DO need it before we are hired also, and i too paid alot of money to get my cfr too before i even took my physical. I have 2 friends, one who i took my class with who is on the job now from the old list, and another who is going into the class in may from the old list, and according to them you need cfr before the academy, then once your in they do a cfr refresher regardless of when you got certified.

JAFO2004:
To be honest with you, I don't think any of us knows for sure what we need and don't need. If the CFR-D certificate is required, that's fine, and I would have paid for a class, and taken it by now (since I took the written in December 2002)
But, on the exam notice, and to this day on the FDNY website with the "list updates" section, it still says that you only need it by the end of the probationary period. I'm just worried because I'm trying to find a class that I can take before I get called since alot of guys here seem to be saying that you Do need to have your CFR-D cert. before hand. So, talk about unfair -- it's kind of unfair if the rules changed mid-stream and no one said anything about it ahead of time. I would have rather known from day one that it was the other way so I could have gotten it done by now

Jim, did you receive your package yet? I took the tests at the same time as you and got the same scores, and I got mine a few days ago. Only difference is that I applied for the residency credit. I got laid off from my job in financial services in March last year and moved from Hoboken to my aunt's apt. in NY. But I've been bouncing around between NJ, NY, and travelling around the world for the past year, and now I'm a bit worried about applying for credit since I wasn't in NY for the FULL year. I guess I'll have to explain my whole situation to the Investigation Officer and hope they don't set me back too much further down the list. Let me know when you get your package, so I'll know where I would have been placed without the extra credit.

I dont know if anyone else has heard this or not, but keep in mind that it is purely just something that was said today, heard that the MAY class has been cancelled, anyone here something like that????

trey2106:
No, still nothing in the mail yet for me... Am I the only one who's a bit frustrated that the last piece of mail I got was from DCAS telling me when to take the physical test??? Anyway, trey, I think the reason is the 5 points residency is added to your score, so in effect, you have a 105 on your test score. So you'd be ahead of me. I wouldn't worry too much about your residency thing though, just because you weren't in the NY locale full-time this past year. As long as you were still receiving mail at that address, I think you'd be alright. I'd hate for you to give T.M.I. that you don't really have to, you know? By the way -- did you get your CFR-D yet, or are you in the same boat as me on that?
JAFO2004 -- that would be big news if they cancelled the May class, especially since they made that big deal about a week or two ago of speeding up list 2043 for the May list. . . I'd check "The Chief Leader" for more up to date info on something like that...

Jim, I haven't done anything for the CFR-D. I think that can be done between the interview/background check and appointment. According to the FDNY site:
"CFR-D Info: For those probationary firefighters who lack a CFR-D certification, the FDNY will provide on the job training, and upon receipt of the certification, payroll deductions for the cost of the training will commence. See the Notice of Examination for the details."
The only issue I'm worried about is residency...I received a few cell phone and credit card bills in NY, but my W-2's, unemployment checks, etc. were sent to NJ and I have to bring all that info to the investigator. I'll let you know what happens...
