Does anyone here know of anyone that has went in as an EMT and then done the promotional exam over to the Fire side? Ive thought about doing this, is there a max age cutoff to promotional over? I know the cutoff is 29 for rectuit testing, but i dont see anywhere where it has a cutoff for promotional transfer from EMS to Fire. Any info would be appreciated, thanks. Also, do you know how often they give promotional exams for EMS to Fire?

Everytime there is an exam for the FDNY there is a promotional exam it is the exact test as the open-competative exam. If im not mistaken the next FDNY exam is going to be in 2006. I know a few people who made the jump from EMS to fire. The only difference is during the physical you can fail a station and still get a 100% if you were taking the open-competative physical if you fail a station you still pass just not with A 100%....

I didn't know the physical test part, but I do know that there list pre-cedes the open competitive part, so it's conceivable that someone get's an 88 on the written, 100 on the physical, and they get hired before someone that has a 100 on the written/100 on physical from the opencompetitive test
We can argue and debate over the fairness of that, and if you read the Chief Leader (the civil service newspaper in NY) you'll see that is a big controversy, but for those of us trying to get on the job, that's the way it is

No offense to the people who already jumped from FDNY-ems to just FDNY - I dont think its a good way to become a firefighter, I think its the unfair way to become one, You only have to pass 5 of the stations and you still get a 100 on the physical, you can get a 70 on the written and still get hired ahead of guys who get 100 plus 5 or even 10 points, plus the union doesnt even agree with it, yet it is still being done. C'mon we all know the reason why there is a promotional - its because of the "RACECARD" again. In MY opinion it MAKES ME SICK!
