I have posted my notebook from Proby School.
(The first 25 pages are posted right now... there are alot more to come.)
I graduated post 9-11 as second out of a class of just under 300.
Its the best job in the world as you will find out.
Good luck to everyone, hope this helps.

I will be adding my Proby first year notebook as well in the upcoming months.
My site is www.firstdueart.com
Click on the Journals link to see the notebook.

Stay safe.

firstdue....

Just out of curiosity, I thought the FDNY proby school was/is longer than 8 weeks. It says 8 weeks in the 1st part of your journal. Awesome job with it though...very interesting to browse through!

The fire portion of school was 8 weeks... there a few more weeks (3 I think) of other stuff. When its all said and done it ends up being something like 11 weeks total.

It feels like 11 months when you're there though.

This book only covers the "fire school" portion though.

Hope this helps.

Stay safe

Firstdueart:

I was wondering if you could answer something for me: On the 1st day of the "rock" is it true that you have to do the following:?\

Run the mile and a half in 12 minutes?
Do 30 push ups in a minute?
Do 30 sit-ups in a minute?

Or do they expect you to be able to do that by the time you graduate?

Im in the middle of training for one of the next classes and I dont want to get caught short.... Thank You for any help you can give me!

NO.

You don't do that stuff on the first day.
You are in a suit and doing everybit of paperwork for the first few days as I remember.

Do you need to be in shape before you get there?
ABSOLUTELY.

Will you need to do all those things BEFORE you graduate.
YES.

The PT instructors at the Rock are great guys, they are very knowledgeable in how to get people ready for the demands of the job and getting in shape.
There is a limited amount of time they have while there, they pack everything into they can. The instructors can only do so much in the time they have... thats why its imperative you show up ready to go.

By the time they test you, you should have no problem at all doing what is required.

As for the run, the instructors get out there and run it with you... sort of like pace cars (for a passing time, don't fall behind them)

Don't just train just to pass the minimum requirements either, if you are on your own training program, keep it up... the only way people don't pass is when they show up unprepared.

Stay safe.
