Kentucky Man Killed during Grass/brush fire

A West Liberty, Kentucky(Morgan County) man dies battling ground fire.Kentucky State Police report 52 year old Scott Elam a neighboring landowner was attempting to help extinguish the fire with a shovel.The shovel made contact with a electric line that had started the fire.The powerline had been knocked to the ground by a fallen tree.Mr Elam was transfer to morgan county regional hospital were he was pronounce dead.

The local fire department had at least one of there personnel on the scene in his POV.The subject was asked to wait on the fire department trucks.The Good Samaritam "I can knock this out before they get here".The subject began attacking the small fire with a shovel which came in contact with the downed wire.

He heart was in the right place.The land owner he was helping was elderly and on oxygen do to COPD.
