Well, we can't mount equipment, have to hook our radio up via the cigarette plug, brakes take a while to get used to and stink like crazy. Will get up and go, but it takes a lil bit just because it shifts through the gears quick. It does turn excellent though. Still not sure the size of tank on it. Pump is very loud when it is throttled up.
It's not too bad. It runs and will work for the daytime crew. I'd like to see how she works on a fire. (Since we finally got to use the Mini-Pumper last week on our fully-involved mattress fire)
Moe, don't it look like a tanker???????

Anybody gonna have it at Station 2 tonight? I'd like to get a closer look.

I think so too!
I don't like it. It's gonna suck if we have to keep it for a long time. There's no generator or outlets, no rear discharges, no air horns, and if we can't mount anything on it, the compartments will be a mess. The SCBA's have to be kept in there cases, and put in a side compartment.
'77 have you figured out what kind of shore plug that is?
No stereo either, how am I gonna listen to Bob and Tom in the mornings?
I guess it's better than nothing and it is brand new. I guess will see.

It's a goofy shoreline plug....... that's what it is.
I just talked to 103 and we are going to have to contact them tomorrow to make sure that is the intent of it. If so, we'll have to make a pigatil to plug into the shoreline to use........
Maybe we can use that bracket in the center of the seat for the SCBA?!?!?!:D :D

It does have AC. I was using it today on my travels in it. Lack of power windows and locks sucks, also.........
And I've been thinking about the lack of Stereo init......... I wonder if one of our peoples' kids have one of them lil boom box looking things that are kinda small and can maybe be velcored to the dash........ How about one of your, 159??? And no Hello Kitty, either!!!!

I like it, the only thing is the two person cab, what the heck is two guys going to do with a truck that big. If it had a four man cab that would be great. I like it better than the mini-pumper only if it had a four man cab, I'm not a mini-pumper fan anyway. It does look like a tanker, maybe you guys can start a new ALS Rescue-Tanker concept like the Rescue-Engine.
How do you guys utilize that unit anyway? How will it respond and to what type calls.

It responds to all calls in the city M-F 0800-1700. On EMS runs, initiate pt. care until your transport unit arrives. On fire runs, use your common sense. If it's something small (i.e. car fire, dumpster, outdoor, etc.) start extinguishment/containment and use the volunteer back-up as needed. If it's a structure, just do what you have to do. Lay supply line, get SCBA on, pull attack lines, be ready to start attack when your next in arrives. If people trapped, do what you gotta do.
As bad as it sounds, much of it will depend on the crew and their confidence in their ability to make the decisions on what they can and cannot handle on their own.

The other thing we have to eventually think about is placement of ALS equipment in the winter months. I assume it doesn't have heated compartments.
As far as the "boombox" goes I have bring one on Thurday.
I agree that the two-person cab is not ideal. I suppose I am in the minority but I like the mini-pumper concept (as long as you can get a mini-pumper that works).

No heated compartment. Hopefully they will decide what they are going to do and get us one that works before it gets too cold.
I like the IDEA of a mini-pumper, but they just can't handle the weight for what we are doing with it. I still say we get an urban-interface type unit........

How about a little update on our truck..........
Not looking good for replacement anytime soon. The wonderful people at the manufacturer have offered us a whopping $94,000 for our not-even-14-month-old truck that hasn't been right since it was purchased and we paid $138,000+ for. Then the replacement one would cost us $151,000........ Aren't they generous????

Moe, I'm just guessing, but if they can get it worked out where it's an even-up trade (or at least pretty close) it will still come from the same manufacturer. If, however, it can't get worked out and has to go through the court system, you can almost guarantee we'll never get another vehicle from that manufacturer........

firenresq77
07-31-2004, 12:07 AM
LOL! I think anything would have been better than this one.
What's even funnier is the fact that at the Ohio Fire Chiefs Conference, this manufacturer was directly across the aisle from a company called ARMS, who we had put a hydraulic generator on our Engine at Station #1, which we are also in the process of litigation with to get our money back due to the problems we had with it........
firenresq77
09-13-2004, 10:19 PM
Another update........
Apparently we have come to an agreement with the manufacturer.......
They are giving us $125,000 for our truck. They are building us a new one on a 2005 GMC 5500 Chassis. This is a 4-door chassis that will seat 4 people. There are a list of changes/upgrades (which I can't remember all of them)
- Will have GVW of 26000 instead of 19000
- Will have 400 gallon tank instead of 300
- Pump is still 500gpm, but will be a different type and will have pump and roll capabilities (not that we'll use it)
- Compartments will be 26" deep instead of 24"
- Generator will be 8KW hydraulic instead of 5KW Auragen-type
- Compartments will be 61" tall instead of 51"
- Initially had 3 pack seats, but I think we may get rid of the officers seat.....
- Will include hose-bed covers.......
- Will have storage in running boards (for lack of better description) below the pump panels.
- Will have an extended front bumper with a storage compartment and plumbed for a trash line.......
- All lettering is supposed to be actual Gold Leaf instead of pseudo gold leaf
I can't remember the rest right now.......
We will have to come up with $26,000 and some change to pay the difference, which the city has already approved. We are trying to talk the Chief into re-numbering the new one to 803 instead of 806. (for those who don't know our system, a rig ending in 6 is a mini-pumper and one ending in 3 is a back-up engine or a tanker). This will not be a Mini pumper...... More like a full-size engine.
The chassis is on order but won't come in until December, which I don't understand why it takes that long........ We should have the truck by March or April 2005........

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.
ALL MANUFACTURERS WILL MAKE A "BAD" TRUCK EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF YOU ARE PIERCE, E-ONE, KME, SUTPHEN. AMERICAN LAFRANCE, OR ONE OF THE SMALLER MANUFACTURERS LIKE 4-GUYS....... IT HAPPENS.
The bottom line is that as long as the manufacturer stands by it's product and is willing to make things right with the truck, everything should be OK.........

I am occasionally useful...
This is a really nice rig. I think with some changes to pump size and a way to mount ladders we could replace our old E-One with something like this for alot cheaper than a full size engine.
Glad everything worked out the best after all the hassles.

Did anyone watch the NASCAR race today??? Fire40man called saying he thought he saw 806 in one of the shots. I turned it on and saw something that looked like it, but, obviously, the shot didn't last long. He reminded me that I had TiVo (I always forget how great it is) so I rewound it and paused it to watch it frame by frame..... I believe it was the old 806 truck there in the Poconohs. (sp??) I had to record it to show others who want to see it in slow motion. It looked like it still had all the same decals on it, even.....
Can any of the guys from KME that watch this thread verify if it was the same rig?? 2003 Ford F-550 Mini-Pumper.........
