I am Trying to become a paramedic in chicago or burbs. I have a felony conviction on my record does this automatically disqualify me?

You answered your own question.
Yes it does. I don't know any fire or police departments hiring known felons. There may be some in the ranks but I don't think they hired them as felons.

Being arrested and convicted are two different things. Having a felony conviction on your record will disqualify you from most if not all departments.

Being a convicted felon is not an automatic disqualification, there is a dept that has a couple of felons on their hiring list.You could apply to that dept. I guess it will depend on what the felony was, and also on your ethnicity.

Sorry man, State law says no one can be employed as a fire fighter or paramedic if convicted of any felony, and certain mistimenars (sp?)

I would agree that a fire department will not take a chance with someone who has a felony on his or her record, regardless of race.
The liability is far too great for any department to incur the liability.
