Tsunamis are scary though. I was stationed in Hawai'i when an earthquake happened off of the coast of Japan in 1994. The Hawai'ians took the alarm seriously and had a pretty damned orderly evacuation of several hundred thousand people. Didn't amount to much, but there is a huge past history in the Hawai'ian islands of tsunamis destroying large portions of the islands.
