I was hoping someone could give me some good info about Fairfax County, Virgina fire dept. I have been told that they may give preference to paramedics and I am curious if there is any truth to that or not? Fairfax County has always been a dept that I've wanted to work for. Any info about the dept or the area would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks and be safe.

I am currently at the end of my term of bieng on Fairfax's list. They dont give "extra points" or much to that, but talking to the people that work there. It is kept in the back of their mind. You wont beable to use that cert or training(needs to go through their training). But again it is kept in their back of their heads.
Good luck

Well, let me put it to you this way. I was told that since I am a white male, I would not have a chance with their department for probably 3 years. In the same sentence I was told to contact them before that time if I had gotten my paramedic license and they could probably give me a job. I'd say if you are a medic. Go for it. Good luck with it.

HAVE TESTED FOR FAIRFAX COUNTY. VERY VERY GOOOD DEPT. PROBABLY ONE OF THE BEST IN OUR COUNTRY. BUT SINCE I'VE BEEN DOWN THERE AND TALKED TO ALOT OF THEIR POEPLE NEVER HEARD SUCH A THING. U CAN HAVE ALL THE PRIOR EXPERIENCE U WANT U STILL HAVE TO GO THROUGH THE ACADEMY AND LEARN THEIR WAY OF DOING THINGS REGUARDLESS OF WHAT TYPE OF CERTS U HAVE. I'M GOING TO REAPPLY AND TEST AGAIN. I KNOW EXCATLY WHAT I HAVE TO WORK ON AND HOPEFULLY I'LL BE ON THE JOB DOWN THERE. GOOD LUCK WITH IT AND MAYBE I'LL C U DOWN THERE.

I can tell you with 100% certianty that if you are a Nationally Registered Intermediate or Paramedic, you will be given preferential treatment for hiring. Not only preferential treatment, but you will be expedited though the hiring process.
If you don't believe me, just ask the two guys from Ohio that are in rookie school now. They asked me the same question not 6 months ago.
